"I just assumed you'd own a good percentage of the buildings in the mutant community," Brooke replied as she took the papers from Stephanie's hand. Her eyes went over the paperwork, not entirely following all of it, but getting the gist of what her friend was getting it.
"You realize, though, that every town is going to end up with its bad pockets and all that, right?" She raised an eyebrow. "Mutant gangs and the like - they might be liable to happen. I know it's something that's far away, but it's something to think about." Not every place was the Smurf village, whatever it was called.
"Xavier's would probably be more than happy to help, considering their message," she added. "It's not...the place I thought it was." They weren't all drinking the happy juice and getting indoctrinated. They honestly believed in Charles Xavier's ideology and message and methods.
It was a little inspiring.
Brooke handed the papers back to Stephanie. "That's sort of why I'm here. To help. To do better. I've...if I'd known any of this existed, I would have been here far sooner." Brooke had never shied away from a charity event, but she'd never really realized that her own people needed that charity. "Granted, I'm sure some of my Mansion-mates think I'm here for less than honorable reasons." She grimaced. "I'm not the best at getting along with people, if you haven't noticed."
