Dark Dreams (Kayla)
--Xavier's, 2 a.m.--
Declan took her hand and led her down the alley, a devilish smile on his angelic face. He could be so mysterious sometimes and that was why she liked him so much. Mom and Dad wouldn't approve if they knew, but being with him made her feel...normal. Like she wasn't different from everyone she knew because of her mutation or because her family came from the aristocracy. For once, she felt normal.
"Come on, Anna. Just a little further..." he said, pulling her along insistently. Brianna couldn't shake the feeling in the back of her mind, the one that told her something was wrong. She was with the boy who'd been chasing her for two years and now they were here. She followed him to and through the door at the end of the alley, expecting the interior of a dance club she'd mentioned wanting to go to.
What she found was a group of eight men and women, all armed with knives, clubs and chains. She knew a couple of them from school. She looked to Declan but he was already backing away from her.
"Found the mutie, just like we said. She's all yours." Declan said in a tone laced with malice. Brianna didn't understand why this was happening but she understood their intent from their postures. They were going to hurt her badly if she didn't hurt them first.
The first one came and her foot lanced out in a vicious kick to the man's abdomen. Even as that movement concluded, she was spinning on the ball of her foot to block an incoming club swing with her forearms. She pushed the weapon down and away to her left and answered with a vicious headbutt to the face of the woman who'd attacked her. Cartilage and bone crunched beneath her forehead even as someone wrapped their arms around her from behind. Brianna struggled to free herself as the first blow to her abdomen came, knocking the wind out of her. Her eyes began to glow with violet fury as she absorbed the energy from her movements...

The bedroom television sparked the popped loudly as it blew out, followed by several other electronic items in the room. And over that, the sound of Brianna screaming in protest could be heard by her roommate and maybe even a few rooms over.
"Let...me...go!"

She smiled at the thought of the General. He was big and awesome-looking. It always surprised her that Kayla loved plushies, because she seemed like such a tough girl who didn't need those things. But that was why Brianna liked her; Kayla wasn't like most people.
"I might take you up on that. The General looks like he could ward off the Dream Demons." Brianna said.
"I love sundaes. My dad makes some really good ones. Used to have them all the time back home." she said.
She paused for a moment.
"Did you ever run into other mutant-haters, besides your family?" she asked.
Her question was interrupted as Rose yelled from down the hall.
"Sorry, Logan. I...had a bad dream. Totally okay, now. Nothing to see here." she said bashfully.

Kayla was a quirky girl who liked all sorts of random things. She was a pretty tough girl, but just because she was tough didn't mean she couldn't like the occasional girly thing. Like plushes. She could totally be a warrior and a girl.
Kayla nodded. "All the time at the shelter or around it. They'd protest around it sometimes, occasionally they'd try and wait around corners to see if they could beat one of us up. They tried to do it to me. Aluminum bat on the head, hard as the guy could, I'm sure. It just kinda made a skull-shaped indent on the bat. Man, I tell you, skinheads can run fast when they're spooked." She didn't really laugh, though. "Couple of my friends weren't so lucky, or tough."
"But if you want to have an ice cream party with us, feel free to come on down!" She said to Rose, perfectly cheerfully. Because really, company was good, right? Fun time with friends was exactly what the goddamn doctor ordered.

Rose shrugged. "Eh, I'm awake. Might as well." She moved to join the other girls.

She did smile a bit, however, when Rose joined them.
"I've never seen you turn down ice cream, Logan." Brianna smirked.

She hadn't ever had exactly the same experience, but it seemed familiar enough from stories she'd heard at the shelter. And she'd had the experience of having bigoted jackasses try and kill her. The fact was, that it was often just about as traumatizing to, well, traumatize the attackers as it was to be hurt yourself. It made you come face to face with the darker side of your powers in a damn hurry.
"I'm like Batman. Creature of the night, fuelled by justice and ice cream." She managed a smile for Rose.
