On the Hunt

Panther's Blood Force eventually got their trans-reality portal to open again. There was some time lag and even greater distance shift between when they left and where they arrived. The five dimensionally-displace villains arrived at North Carolina's Outer Banks slightly disorientated from the journey. As they got their bearings, Blood Witch took a breath of the salty air.

She looked to the others of Blood Force. They looked hungry for action and slightly disappointed they weren't getting any right away. She took stock of their surroundings. No annoying superheroes were there yet. Which was both good and bad. Good in that they could lay a trap. Bad in that they had no one to call their prey to them.

She ran her tongue over her pointed canines. "Mm. Quiet little world here. Let's make it a little louder. Sandstorm, make this sandbox ours. Rough Justice, scout the area. Iron Maiden, Blackdog, get the authorities to come. I want a surprise for the soon to be dead crown prince."

The escaping nuisance from last reality had probably warned Remi deNamor. Blood Force would not have much time to set things up. The little almost king would be here soon. Possibly with others to slay.

What was red, black, crispy, and creepy all over?

Currently, it was Blackdog. Eventually the pain got too much even for his pleasure and he staggered sideways to get out of the flames.

Iron Maiden got the projectile warning as Griffen bounced off and knocked down the changing stalls he used to get momentum. The woman in the tech suit quickly decided that if he needed to bounce off something to get to her, he didn't have control of flight.

She flew up 50 feet to avoid the incoming shielded projectile.

As she did so, a small, shoulder-mounted device popped up. It rotated and then fired a small missile with a payload of a concussion grenade. The missile was aimed at the ground directly behind Alexa.

Sandstorm was not in the center of the tornado. He knew that was where people would expect him to be. Particularly people who have invisible shields to try to trap him.

The bald man was to the left of center, the sand in the tornado wrapping around his body before continuing to swirl on. He waved to Derric as the young Atlantean passed by.

Then the tornado started spinning faster and louder, hiding Sandstorm as he moved to another spot in his creation.

"Alexa!" He moves to get between her and the blast zone. Griffin for being largely unpowered is quick on his feet.

"Move!" He can take this hit.The heat will be a problem but he'll deal with that later. He just doesn't want her hurt.

Okay, she was actually starting to feel a little sick about this. Because she was not, by nature, a violent person. But how did you deal with somebody who got their rocks off on pain?

She let the flames stop for a moment, preparing to shift into another form at a moment's notice.

"Hey!" Jacob shrugged his shoulders and twisted around, trying to get a look at what or who was attached to his back. It was very unsportsmanlike to attack from behind!

"No free rides, lady!"

Derric cursed. Okay, that wasn't part of the plan.

Getting caught in the middle of this vortex was also not the plan.

...this is probably why he wasn't exactly leader material.

Ryan tugged back down and smacked a couple of star-shaped cosmic energy blasts at Rough Justice's face to try and disorient him further.

Blood Witch tried to hold on as best she could. The muscular rock beneath her almost succeeded in dislodging her. Her nails scraped uselessly on his neck and chest until she got her center of gravity just right.

Then she took in a breath, hoping this worked.

Blood Witch attempted to bite some part of that massive neck to get psionic control of this bruiser.

Jacob was just about to drop the cops and try to make a grab for the woman on his back when he felt a strange sensation. She was biting him! What the heck?! He actually felt it.... well, just a little bit.

And then he started to get a little brain fuzzy.

Remi dove and blindly groped his way through the sand tornado. He had shields in front of his eyes, but it wasn't helping him see through sand.

He hoped to grab onto Derric, wrap a shield around them, and then take them both out of the top of this thing. He just needed to get a solid grab on his alterna-son.

Blood Witch did not draw blood with this bite. In fact, she got a mouthful of grit. But she just needed her victim to believe he was getting bit by a vampire. Just for a moment. That gave her the opening for psionic control she needed.

She let go of Jacob's neck and slid down his back. She spit out whatever was in her mouth.

"You will listen and obey." The two police officers in Jacob's hands stopped struggling and said they would, but she waited for her newest plaything to follow suit.

The crispy critter coughed and tried to blink lidless eyes. Basking in the fire had done a number on him. He waved a hand weakly.

"Gimme a minute, sweetcheeks." He had not burned his vocal cords away.

"...Really? All that and you're still standing?" Mary couldn't believe it.

She swatted him with her tail.

If he could have seen himself, Jacob would have been horrified to see his eyes begin to change color. The whites went jet black and the pupils turned red.

"... listen and obey," he muttered, still holding the unresisting policemen in his fists.

"Nah, I'm good where I am."

The Fruit Ninja-like game? Was a specialized type of scanner. Alexa had quickly called up the information on the Mach-13, then compared that to the detailed scans of the suit Iron Maiden was wearing. There were some differences to be certain--one of them interesting enough that Alexa was trying to copy all the information on it possible for later use--but there was just enough that was the same. The shoulder-mounted device popped up. It rotated and then fired, but it didn't fire all that well. The missile dropped down well short of its intended target and as it did the device itself popped, temporarily jarring the suit's nav systems.

"I think I'm going to have to go up there after her, Griff. There's a Death Star-style weak spot on that armor."

Blood Witch smiled to herself. Perfect.

"Set down my playthings," she ordered. She meant the police officers in Jacob's large hands.

"Then go and kill the Remi. This is taking far too long."

The swat sent Blackdog flat, making him hiss as sand got in his wounds.

"C'mon. Get the prince dead," he muttered as he weakly struggled to try to get to his feet.

From Alexa's Fruit Ninja detection device, she could see that the armor's systems and the woman wearing it were intertwined. The armor was much more her than she was wearing it. Disabling the suit would kill the woman wearing it.

Iron Maiden grunted and tried to stabilize her flight and move some. She spoke into her communicator to just her teammates. "I've got the brains distracted. Some one take out the prince, dammit."

Rough Justice fall back down, but he twisted his armored, heavy body to try to fall right on Ryan.

Sandstorm emerged from the swirling wall of vortex to try to grab Derric by the neck to strangle him. Except his fingers ran into invisible shields. He cursed and retreated back into the sand.

"Hrruk!" Ryan grunted. "Dude. Big beefy armoured guys are not my thing," he managed to say before channeling the cosmic energy at the armour. Maybe he could make it crack?

"This is getting less fun," Derric managed to say as Remi whisked Derrick away. "We need to regroup or something, Alterna-Dad."

"My homeworld is not a fun place," Remi noted as they rose out of the tornado. He flew the father-son duo to farther down on the beach. He set them down with their backs to the water.

"Get a nice charge ready. Sandstorm's not going to stop until someone makes him."

Mary transformed into a large, rock-skinned ape and hit him again. "STAY DOWN, YOU FREAKING PSYCHOPATH!"
