It was Kayla that moved to get the guy his cooking supplies. It wasn't as if he was going to do any damage with a simple paring knife, and she was honestly curious to see if this guy could cook. She tended to be skeptical about most people in that social strata having useful lifeskills. They had other people to do that stuff for them.
