Seijin no Hi

Aiden was a lot less fidgety in his silk formal kimono than he was in regular suits. He liked the fact it was handmade to fit Aiden's 6'3" frame. His grandmother had spared no expense in having the colorful kimono made. The heavy silken wear felt right to the Mojoworlder. And it was not trying to choke him. He started to think he should wear one to all formal events.

He had attended the ceremony at the city hall and had made it to the ceremony at the temple his family went to for holidays. He wasn't sure where he was going next. There were events all over to attend. Though he was not going to get drunk again. His grandmother had drunk him under the table. It was a little embarrassing. Even if his grandma was a mysterious ninja clan leader.

Currently, Aiden was looking for either his family or Angel after getting pulled aside for a string of photos with other young Japanese ladies in their finest. The gaijin-looking guy celebrating seemed to be a big draw.

Hikaru met Angel's eyes with a dark look of her own. It was okay if Angel caught on to what she was doing. She wanted her to.

Angel needed to understand that she had no place here, between herself and Aiden.

Hikaru gingerly plucked the camera from Angel's hands. "Thank you so much, Angel-san. I'll be sure to send you and Aiden-san copies of the photograph!"

Aiden smoothed out his kimono. He was not paying attention to the dark looks passing between the two women. "That would be great, Hikaru-san. I appreciate it."

He smiled again.

Angel's glowing eyes narrowed. "We'll appreciate that, Ah'm sure," she said, as politely as her frosty opinion of this girl would allow.

"So..." she looked between Angel and Aiden. One look hairy and fierce and angry, and the other looked so wonderfully dreamy and handsome and perfect.

But it was okay.

Soon, she would take over one of Aiden's hearts. Then, she would push Angel out and entirely dominate both.

But there was time yet to do that.

"I suppose I should be leaving now." But man, did she not want to.

Aiden stepped over to Angel and slung an arm around her waist. He considered Hikaru. "You said you were by yourself today. No one should be alone on her Seijin no Hi. Why don't you tag along with us as we check out the other festivities?"

Murderous girlfriend rage... rising. But also being abated by boyfriend.

Angel wrapped her tail around Aiden's midsection, putting her arm around him for good measure.

"Ah reckon that'd be all right."

Inside, Hikaru soared with glee.

Outside, she was the perfect picture of politeness.

"Well, if you insist Aiden-san," she said. Then, in a well-calculated burst of emotion, she gave the love of her life a big hug. "That would be wonderful!"

Aiden blinked at the hug. Not so much he was getting one, just the body and arm positioning Hikaru had to do since he had his arm around Angel and had a tail and arm around him. Though he still had an arm free to give a friendly one-armed brief hug.

"You're welcome. Now, come on. I think I saw some booths outside the temple grounds selling things."

The familiar strains of Loretta Lynn's music went off in Angel's head, and she tried to push them aside. She tensed, briefly, and let it go.

"Lead the way, Sugah."

Hikaru giggled a dainty little giggle.

One that was sure to get on Angel's nerves.

"Yes, Sugah-san. Lead the way!"

Aiden wasn't particularly paying attention to what was going on between Angel and Hikaru. He was busy trying to remember which stalls caught his eye on the way in to the temple and reverse it since they were leaving the temple.

He doubted there would be goldfish with it being January and kinda frosty. Maybe something else. Hmm.

Angel, meanwhile, was distracted by thoughts of murder, tempered only by the fact that her swords were back in New Jersey and that creating a public spectacle would probably be a bad way to end their vacation.

She tensed only briefly, and forced herself to calm down.

Hikaru, meanwhile, was keeping busy, making sure that no one around would stare at Aiden too long. It was amazing what a little gust of wind straight to people's eyes could do.

Of course, she didn't do this to Angel. She didn't want the severely under-waxed she-demon to know what it was that she was capable of.

Until it was far too late, anyway.

There were some nondescript people milling around in the crowd outside of the temple. They had been waiting there for since Aiden Blaire had gone into the sacred site. They were not going to spill blood on holy ground, but just outside of it was just fine.

When the tall blond made it to the bottom of the steps. a couple of the ninja in the crowd threw shuriken at the man in front of the two very different women.

At the bottom of the stairs, Aiden noticed his left sandal was loose. He crouched down to tighten the strap. The two throwing stars aimed at him just missed.

Fortunately, with the girls on either side of him and Aiden bending down, the throwing stars passed directly between them.

When she saw what had been thrown, Angel tensed, scanning to look where they came from. "What in the Sam Hill...?"

Hikaru saw them as well, but at the moment, she didn't make it obvious that she had. She stayed perfectly still, though, and gently scanned the crowd. Her fingers curled and uncurled, ready to unleash some wind on whoever it was that just tried to brutally maim her future husband.

And then, when she found them, she could take them down - and maybe horribly hurt Angel in the process - and Aiden would be so grateful to Hikaru for saving him that he would fall in love with her forever, even as Angel lay dying at their feet.

Or something appropriately romantic.

"Who is Sam Hill?" Hikaru asked, playing dumb for the moment.

The shuriken throwers faded back into the crowd that hadn't noticed pointy objects being thrown. Though the crowd did notice the five people with drawn swords charging through them toward the tall, blond man.

Aiden got his sandal nice and snug. When he stood up, he had people rushing at him with swords.

"Yipe!" He put his hand up and made a hard light shield radiate out from his palm. It would buy him a second or two for a better reaction.

"Ninjas." Angel rolled her eyes. "Of course. One normal vacation. That's all Ah ask."

Angel bamfed, reappearing behind one of the ninjas and delivering a kick at his head.

While Angel and Aiden sprung into action, Hikaru did the only thing she publicly could in the situation.

She hiked up the hemline of her elaborate kimono, screamed like a terrified damsel in distress, and ran.

Until she found a nice, cozy corner to hide in, where neither Angel nor Aiden would be able to see her.

Then she whipped up a strong little gust of wind and sent it towards the ninjas. First, she'd batter them. Then she'd take their breath away.
