"Oh good. So you do have some sort of sense in you after all," Brooke said. She still hadn't stepped away from the door and raised her chin as Alisa tried to enter. She narrowed her eyes at Alisa. That reason - to grasp her powers better - had been exactly the reason she'd first sought the X-Men out.

Still, Brooke had been under no one's thrall but her own, and Alisa did have ties to the Hellfire Club - though in a more subservient way than Brooke did.

There was also the matter of all that was going on with Stephanie.

"And it is. Maybe a little. Don't get me wrong, I came here for the same reasons myself. But I'm not a snake hiding in a rosebush." Her lips twitched darkly. "You very well might be, given what's been going on with certain factions of the Shaw family." She stepped aside then, finally. "But no matter, Alisa. Whatever your true intentions for being here, Rachel will suss them out."
