A nurse took pity on Remi (it was pretty obvious that Alexa might punch him soon) and got the doctor. The doctor moved over to Alexa and didn't even go through the motions of talking about things to distract her. She just checked how dilated she was and hoped Alexa wouldn't try to kick her.

"I think we can move you to the birthing pool. That way you can get acclimated to the water, but I think you're going to get lucky...it's almost time to push."
