Assault on PEGASUS

Project PEGASUS, located outside Mount Athena, New York, was one of the premier energy research facilities in the world, exploring all manner of exotic technologies and resources.  It had, at times, been used to hold energy-empowered super-criminals, and had, at times, boasted super-humans as their security directors, ranging from the Thing to the Blue Shield to Darkhawk.  Neither of those were a factor these days.

But it was still a tempting target to many a super-villain and other criminals. 

Such as today.  Several members of the Lethal Legion had arrived, assaulting the compound.

A call for help went out to the Avengers.

Bruce sat in the pilot's seat of the Quinjet, speeding them along their way.

"Looks like multiple super-villain contacts," he said to the team. "All of whom have been off the map for a while. Be ready for anything."

Jay picked at his teeth with his thumbnail. He was sure there was some spinach from his pizzas earlier stuck between a couple. He ran his tongue over his teeth again once he thought he got it.

"So multiple punchings of justice. Got it. Butt kicking for goodness."

"Sometimes, I think that I have to set this whole pacifist thing aside," Nicky said off-handedly. "Seems like villains never actually want to have a conversation on how not to cause lots of property damage and mayhem." This, coming from the man with a strong, mystical axe that could cut through almost anything.

"Jay, you can always ask to see if I have a toothpick or floss with me," Ree said with an arched brow. Jay had become a good friend, keeping her secret and even smoothing her way onto the team as a heroine called Sterling because of the shiny silvery steel that she could turn herself to. It was either that or Armadillo. She preferred Sterling.

"The bad guys aren't usually cool with talking. They prefer grunts."

"Bad guys never want to talk," Bruce agreed. "Getting some security footage from PEGASUS now. Looking like... at least four bad guys outside, maybe more inside. We should be overhead... now."

He threw the Quinjet into hover-mode.

"Hit them hard, hit them fast, watch for civilians, and back each other up."

He popped the hatch. "Avengers... ASSEMBLE!"

One of the four outside looked a bit lizard-like. Basilisk looked to the sky with eyes that started to glow with a wavering red light.

"Aw lookie lookie. I hope we got some rookies." He waited for something to appear outside of the hatch to shoot his eye beams at.

Jay made a pincering motion with his forefinger and thumb. "Would I have to raise my pinkie while using a toothpick that would get lost on my big fingertips?"

He grinned. "C'mon, Arma-Sterling." Which of Ree's codename choices the big, green goober preferred was now common knowledge. Even if he did remember to correct himself.

"Time to cannonball onto someone's head. Last Avenger out smells like Boo's crate after enchilada night."

Nicky wrinkled his nose. "One of the worst scents I've ever had the displeasure of coming across." Not that he was the type, but he did wish that someonewould bribe Jarvis to cancel enchilada night just for that reason.

He stood up and cracked his knuckles. "Let's hope there's no big surprises on our horizon."

The Abomination looked up with a grin and cracked scaly knuckles. "Gonna be fun," he said.

Doctor Spectrum let a crackle of energy escape from his Power Prism. "I say bring it on."

The Cobalt Man's armor gleamed in the sunlight. "Just remember the mission," he advised the others.

Bruce quickly identified the combatants. "Jay, you've got the Abomination. Nicky, take the Cobalt Man. Sterling, you've got Basilisk. I'll take Doctor Spectrum."

He jumped out of the Quinjet, taking to the air and opening fire with some photonic bolts.

Nicky nodded. "Aye aye, Captain," he said lightly before jumping out of the Quinjet after Bruce. His axe glinted as he hefted it in front of him, using it to guide his way towards Cobalt Man.

"Sounds like fun," Ree said as she took a deep breath to steel herself against the constant headache and to prepare herself for battle. A moment later she leapt.

"Alright, Basilisk. Time to dance."

Jay plummeted with style. Even with a little swan dive thrown in. He would shake the landscape with the impact. Because a half ton of muscle would at least shake a pine cone off of something.

"Heeeerre, Abominable Blueman!"

Abomination vs. Jay

The Abomination laughed. "Bring it on, Greenskin!"

Basilisk vs. Ree

As soon as he spotted her, Basilisk opened fire on Ree with his eyebeams.

Cobalt Man vs. Nicky

The Cobalt man unleashed a barrage of energy bolts at Nicky.

Doctor Spectrum vs. Bruce

Doctor Spectrum rose to meet Bruce in the air, forming a giant spiked mace in the air of solid energy.

Jay pulled himself out of the small crater he made. His large hands brushed the grass off the white parts of his uniform. It wouldn't do to go into a throwdown messy and stained all ready. He shook clumps of soil out from between his toes before he started loping toward the Abominable Blueman.

"The bigger they are, the harder I hit!" His loping stride turned into a full out charge at his foe. Fists were ready to meet with evil-doer body.

"That doesn't make any sense!" the Abomination roared, taking the blow. His hard, scaly hide absorbed the bulk of the blow, pushing him back just a little.

"My turn." He threw a punch of his own.

Bruce hammered the mace with photonic blasts, trying to get a sense of the energy it was made out of. If he could get a handle on it, he could absorb it.

Nicky avoided them - or at least tried to. He even swatted some bolts away with the side of his axe.

One cleanly tore his red cape in half though.

Did that count as first blood? Nicky wasn't sure.

Taking a deep breath, he flew back a little bit, raised his arm, and threw his axe down at the Cobalt Man. It didn't have the same values that Mjolnir had. It was a strong axe, but anyone, worthy or no, would be able to lift it.

Nicky was counting on Cobalt Man not realizing that.

The Cobalt Man didn't even plan on trying. Instead, he unleashed a blast of energy to try and deflect it.

The mace's exterior cracked as Bruce hammered away at it, but Doctor Spectrum pressed on. As the mace cracked, a dozen arrows of energy shot out from within, flying towards Bruce.
