Everything New is Old
Cape Citadel, Florida, was home to a portion of the United States' nuclear arsenal. As such, it was one of the most heavily guarded military bases in the country. Decades ago, it had been attacked by Magneto, the sight of the first public demonstration of so-called "evil mutants" and the first time the X-Men had gone into action publicly. It had been a day when history had changed.
History, it seemed, was about to repeat itself.
She carried her followers in a sphere of magnetic energy, her cloak billowing around her as she set them down, blowing away the fences around the base with a single wave of her hand.
Guards rushed them, but were blown back by her powers, even as the others--Mercury and the Red Witch, Heavyweight, Lady Mastermind, and Frogg, conducted their own assaults.
"Here me, humans," Magneta, Mistress of Magnetism, heir to Magneto's mutant throne, declared. "I have come to claim your weapons for my own. Are we not the Children of the Atom? Then the weapons of the Atomic Age belong to mutants!"

"Breaking news, as it appears a woman dressed as Magneto has taken the missile base at Cape Citadel hostage, threatening nuclear Armageddon if her demands are not met... Genoshan representatives are declining to comment..."

He squinted at the flattened vertical stage. "God's Teeth, it seems a peril is at hand. In somewhere warm. Most fortuitous."

"...This... blasphemer has no idea the kind of backlash she could bring down on Our People.

She sighed and reached for her keys. Definitely a good day to get the boys home from school early. She had a feeling she was going to be going out tonight.

She cracked her knuckles. "We're gonna have to kick some kiester."

He paled visibly.
Yeahbutwhu?

Annoyed, she stood up and stalked out of the coffee shop.
Maybe it was a good thing that she was currently X-friendly.

"I reckon we're doin' something about the big ballyhoo?"
no subject
Does she have a plan? No, not really.

"I'm watching it right now," he said, knowing full well why Jeremiah would be calling him.

Just to annoy her.
Besides, it went with her colour scheme.
"Wanna meet up with us? This could be like our action and adventure date - something more lively than rock climbing or mini golf."

For most people, it may have been weird that Topher was using this opportunity to make a date, of all things, but given the world that they lived in...well, this was as normal as a fancy dinner at Butter.

Rose, who's possibly one of the best fighters that they have.
N'Yami, who Topher didn't know as well as he would have liked to, but who could probably hold her own on the battlefield if she possessed even half the spirit of her parents.
Brooke, who Topher only knew to be a bitchy tele-empath.
D'Artagnan, who could probably easily manipulate the electricity towards where they were going.
Topher didn't have a plan yet - Generation Xerox of the original five, this team was definitely not - but he had some pieces put together.
"I also have a friend joining us at Cape Citadel," he added. "Jeremiah Bennett. He'll be able to give us a little bit more muscle."

He looked quite serious. "This... this has the potential to set Mutant-Human relations back decades. There simply hasn't been an act of mutant terrorism this overt since Magneto's hey-day. This needs to be stopped before it gets any worse than it already is."

He turned toward the exit.

"You heard Professor Talky," Rose said. "We roll."
She shot Topher a look. "Reckon yer in command this time out, Summers."
