A Hotel of Two Tales

The decrepit-looking hotel near a waterfall in Colombia was a case of the facade not quite matching the interior. Early 20th century grandeur fought against years of disuse and nature's reclamation. While the first floor retained some of it's moldy and waterlogged appearance, it was a deception to keep the local guerillas uninterested in the goings on inside the building. With late night experiments leading to flashing lights in some of the windows, the locals, gun-toting or not, spoke about the old hotel as a haunted location.

The head of that nest was counting on interlopers of the goody-two-shoe variety. Though the planned team wasn't the ones in blue and white. Either way, Huntress 19 had called in assistance from extra nests.

The expected and unexpected visitors coming into their airspace were reported to Huntress 19. They seemed to be coming in from opposite sides. The blonde's eyes narrowed as she heard gunfire start off in the distance.

She looked up from the report. "SHIELD will be here shortly. Why don't you two give them the proper welcome? Just be wary of the traps in and out we've already told you about. I'll see to Dr. Ubel and his experiments."

Agent May landed the Bus in the closest clearing she could find to the target, but even that was still over a mile away. The team was going to have to hump it toward the hotel. The eldest agent on board unbuckled herself and went to send off the team.

"We're getting reports other SHIELD teams in the area are running into stiff resistance from the cartels not happy about us being here. If you need back up, I'm going to be it for the time being. Good luck, Agents."

Nika managed to find a clearing just big enough for the Silver Swan to set down not too far from their objective.

"Alright, Wild Pack," she announced as she emerged from the cockpit. "Maximum destruction unless Black Cat says she wants to see it. Quinn will take the rear."

She opened up her cases and holstered two Desert Eagles and put a Smith & Wesson 500 Magnum in a holster on her thigh. She shoved ammo into some pouches and picked up an Uzi.

"Everyone ready?"

"So basically, if it looks interesting, weird, or something that you wouldn't find at Best Buy, but definitely would at Stark, Veridian, Baintronics or something? Clue me in and set it aside," Felicity said as she settled her cats-eye goggles over her eyes.

"Let's do this thing."

Ariadne looked blankly at Huntress 19 for a moment before nodding her head. Sometimes, she still chaffed under orders, but she knew when to take them and when to ignore them.

This time, she was taking them.

Hazel eyes darted towards the Brown Recluse for a moment before she turned away.

The spider could do her thing, and the snake would do hers.

Recluse watched Ariadne leave, sneering dismissively at her. She would not bother the snake, not now. The woman irritated her but they both had a job to do. She turned away, already plotting how she would use the traps to her advantage. "I assume we are to take no prisoners?"

"There's one or two high-value targets, but they're just as good dead as alive." She went to a cabinet to grab a few weapons. She loaded a pair of batons, a wrist crossbow, and a few other things on her person.

"Happy hunting."

"Don't worry, Agent May. We'll handle getting in and dealing with the targets. We'll be back before you know it." Joe said, slipping his black half-helmet on his head, a replica of his father's gear, just colored differently.

"U.S. Agent will take point. I'll make sure you all get to the target location then double-back and make sure no one's on our tail. Agent Fury, you're QB. Once you guys are in let me know and I'll follow you."

Quinn finished assembling his sniper rifle and smiled. He never put the sight on. That made things way too easy. He grabbed his "tool-belt" and checked his daggers. All four were still sharp. Dad gave them to him when he was ten. Mom didn't like him having sharp objects so early and gave him a pair of batons to balance it out. He missed his mom in that moment but pushed the thought aside.

Maybe if things worked out with SHIELD, he could ask Fury if he had any leads on his mother.

He put on the belt and the strapped his batons into sheathes on his left leg. Then he picked up his rifle and two spare magazines of ammunition. If he needed more, he'd take them off the body of first guy he had to drop.

"Got it, Boss. Sharpshot ready for action. Cat, I'm not a techno-geek, so I'll just assume that if isn't a VCR, Camcorder or gun, you'll want to see it. Good enough?" he asked, readying himself to cover his teammates.

Being a mercenary was not a half-bad gig.

"Will do." Sammy adjusted her earpiece securely. "Everyone sound off. I want to know this is working before we head in."

"Fitz here," he said, a little slowly so as not stutter. "All set."

He had a few specialized insertion goodies for this mission. The best hardware he could bring to the job. Plus whatever it was that Nikki had provided him with. He still wasn't entirely sure what it was, but he had it if he needed it.

Which he hopefully wouldn't.

She just smirked as she grabbed a pair of pistols and a set of knives. She would enjoy her hunt. It was always more fun when she didn't have to hold back.

Fin got up from his seat, which might have groaned in happiness from not having to hold his weight anymore. The fin atop his head slowly extended. He lightly smacked the knuckles of one fist into the palm of his other hand.

"I will leave somethings not hit for Little Cat Woman."

"I'm a child of Japanese culture. I know fun tech when I see it." Hana grinned, bouncing to her feet and stretching before drawing shadows down to herself to form her sword. There was a Glock .40 in a holster strapped to her right thigh, but she preferred stealth where possible.

"I'll sneaky sneak in and see what I can see..." She faded into shadow form and stepped through the nearest dark space. This was going to be fun!

The two Coulsons were sent out on flank when Agent May heard gunfire closer than she would have liked. They were to rendevous with the rest of the team by the time they got to the HYDRA base. May stayed near the loading ramp as the team was sent out.

The agents worked their way through the jungle. Gunfire occasionally sounded around them, but no guerillas seemed to have taken shots at them. The gunfire covered any noise the team made moving through the jungle.

The dense foilage cleared about 200 meters from a decrepit 3 story former mansion turned into hotel. The ground between the edge of the jungle and the door to the hotel was wide open.

The shadow-skipping scout found the interior of the abandoned hotel waterlogged and damaged from being so close to the falls with windows broken out. Some pieces of previously grand furniture were crumbling and decaying in various rooms. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary for an abandoned hotel.

That didn't mean HYDRA did not have illusions up and were watching, however.

Joe moved around the perimeter of the area, trying to make sure that no one was taking shots at the team.

"Fury, ETA until arrival at the hotel?" he asked into his commlink.

Sammy paused at inside the jungle tree line and looked across the 200 meters. "It's wide open," she said into her commlink. "Meters of open ground that could get us killed right here."

"Are you thinking land-mines? No way they leave this place unguarded with all of armed guerrillas out here." Joe said.

"Doubling back to meet with you." he said, changing course and going to meet up with the rest of the team.

Quinn let everyone proceed him and then took up his guard in the rear. He scanned the treeline to make sure no one (besides Hana) was ahead of them. He checked east and south, and saw no one. Good enough.

He heard the sounds of gunfire. He resisted the urge to get a better look. They weren't here to be heroes. They had an objective to meet.

"So far, no hostiles on our tail. Something about this doesn't feel right, Boss. We should be getting shot at. FirstWorld Merc Problems, I know." Quinn said.

Black Cat reached into her utility belt and pulled out a thin black metallic disc, stylized so it looked like the head of a cat. She flipped it over and pressed a button before tossing it up into the air. The device gently hummed and then went swerving off to the right. She did the same with another three devices, and the yellow goggles of her mask turned green.

"This is HYDRA," she said. "Nothing should seem right." She was doing the thing that all smart burglars did first. She was looking for digital, holographic illusions and hidden traps. "Not feeling right is right when it comes to them."

"If I can get a mini-drone airborne," Simon said, "I might be able to pinpoint some obstacles. I've improved the scanning range significantly."

If Gina's mother had told her anything, it was '"Don't get shot." (Along with "Don't sit with your legs like that!" and "Always invest in solidly made furniture.") The air crackled next to her skin as she turned to metal.

If she saw anything interesting... like snakeskin shoes! Or weird, like, um... shoes made out of live snakes? She'd definitely tell the Black Cat.

Joe considered that for a moment.

"Fitz, if you can get us eyes in the sky, we'll need it. The fewer surprises from we get from the snake-chumps, the better." he said.

"If you can pinpoint a few to avoid, I can get us through it. It's the explosions after we cross the ground that'll tell them we're here."
