Going "Home" Again

Sean had never been crazy about planes. Then again he'd never been crazy about heights period. He probably would have driven if it were more practical. Frankly he was glad to finally be on solid ground again. He had to admit he had some butterflies in his stomach after being gone for so long from the institute. Not the X-Man part, that had to be done as far as he was concerned. The part about seeing all the familiar faces he hadn't seen in..sheesh, how many years had it been? Eh, no point in ruminating. He made his way, trying not to get impatient at the disembarking line.

Rose nodded. "Yeah. It's been a heckuva whirlwind ride since the school went public... but I'm thinkin' it's for the better overall. Besides, I already got some of the younger students who dive for cover when I come through."

He frowned a bit, putting a hand on her shoulder. "You sound like you got the weight of the world on your shoulders."

Rose frowned just a little. "Maybe. Lots of stuff going on."

She went on. "Found out I was adopted a little while back."

"What?" He didn't know what to expect, but it hadn't been that. "Wow. Do you want to talk about it? I know I haven't been around, but I am now."

"Shoulda told you sooner," Rose admitted. "Spent a lot of time tryin' to process it."

She let out a breath. "Pops is still Pops. He raised me. He's my dad. Ain't no changin' that.

"But it turns out my biological father's that psychopath Creed."

That actually made his eyes bug out for a second.

"Shiiit," he said with quiet shock. He took a moment before composing himself. "Okay, first off: You have no obligation to tell me anything until you feel up to doing it. Second, you're right. Logan's still your dad regardless of genetic bs. And three..we don't usually get to choose our relatives, but..well..you were lucky enough to get a second pick." He rubbed the back of his head. "Important thing is..you're here." He let out a breath. He really felt like he wasn't good at this sort of thing.

She nodded. "Got most of that sorted out a while back. Even talked Pops into telling me about my biological mother. Some crony of Creed's named Birdie. Guess she got scared when she found out she was gonna be a mom."

She looked over at him. "Ya know how much I have to work to keep a lid on things when I get angry. Ever since I found out, I worry more and more about what happens if I slip up."

He nodded. "I know. I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit though," Sean said earnestly. "The whole time I've known you I think I've only ever seen you "really" lose your temper, maybe three times? My point is you're good at what you do and you've been prepped by a guy who knows what he's doing. So cut yourself a little slack."

Rose put her arms around Sean and gave him a squeeze.

"Consider this one of yer every six month good ideas, Irish."

He hugged her back. I have my moments. Not often, but I have them."
