Shopping in Soho (Open to New Yorkers)

Alexander Aaron's visit to his sister  went well, but now he needed to actually get settled in and the first thing he needed to do was buy clothing and get to know the competition. Humans had issues with nudity and Alex figured it best to subscribe to their rules for as long as he was on their plane of existence. He also needed things like a car and a more permanent place to live, but one thing at a time.

He headed to a tailor and get his measurements done and look over his choices. Eventually, he'd design his own clothing but he also needed to go over materials as well.

The attendant helping him was clearly fawning over him but Alexander ignored it, hoping he could get through this shop and head to the next one as soon as possible.

"Can you bring over something in grey? And a few ties as well?" he asked her. She hastened to obey.

Sometimes, Earth wasn't so bad.

The fitting ended and Alexander left with several suits and the attendant's phone number.  Finding himself hungry, Alex stopped at a local restaurant to get something to eat. He remembered that all of the really terrible Earth food was really good, but the pricier items left a lot to be desired. He sat down at a table started out with some tea, deciding that he'd have something stronger in a bit.

"Och, they're ver' handy. Normally, with shifters, we have totake the dress off, shift, shift back, put the dress on, it's dreadfully tedious. But the fancy stuff just shifts with."

Marcelo rubbed his chin thoughtfully. The realized he needed to shave before patrol tonight.

"Unstable molecule clothing was developed by Dr. Reed Richards. Unstable molecules are typically utilized in fabrics for superhero costumes. They allow the fabric to conform with the wearer's form and to not succumb to the wearer's powers." He sat back a bit in his chair. "My company has looked at the idea more for clothing to shift to a bullet proof form on impact. For police use. But we're a bit far behind the Future Foundation in terms of research."

Alexander finds himself slightly taken aback by Danielle's description of shifting. He knew many who could assume the forms of others, but he couldn't do it himself. He puts the idea of clothing for shifters on his list of ideas. He also keeps his mind away from the idea of a naked Aesir. The last time had been a lot of fun but the messy consequences left a bitter taste in his mouth.

"That sounds like a good thing to research, Marcelo." Alexander said, staring to eat as the first of Danielle's meals was brought to her. Alexander enjoyed his lobster bisque. It was delicious. He'd have to bring Roxanne back here.

Danielle honestly thinks nothing of it. Her different forms weren't even what made her a mutant, just the natural way to be in her family.

She eats happily and listens.

Marcelo sat forward a bit so he could start his lunch without slopping all over himself.

"Well, Colombia has Miguel Caballero and his bulletproof clothing. Though his clothing feels light, you can make out the bulletproof plating in it. We're working so undercover police could be wearing something similar and not look like there's plating sewn in. From what Stephanie has told me, unstable molecule clothing is not particularly bulletproof itself."

He started to dig into his food.

"Police officers are subject to a plethora of dangers in this city, even though there are more heroes in this city than almost anywhere else." Alexander said between bites of food.

"And if it's being researched for our everyday heroes, one can only imagine that the bad guys are getting it done for themselves." he said.

"Och, aye, it's not normally bulletproof." Danielle frowns slightly. Unpleasant family stories there. Some people could be so fragile. One of the reasons she wanted to be healer.

[vesper_verde]

"I'm sure some American companies are doing it for both sides. We'd like ours on the police in the favelas of Rio and São Paulo as soon as possible." Marcelo decided today's special was not the best thing he ever had, but it was serviceable. Also, he had stopped looking for and eating lots of good food when he stopped dating.

He nodded toward Danielle. "I'm sure some of the superheroic set probably wish the material were more impervious to outside damage."

"Well, war is a profitable business no matter which side you're on." Alexander said lightly, having a bit more intimate knowledge of the matter than most. Often times, Father set it up just that way. He won no matter who claimed victory.

"How long have you been in America, Marcelo? What about you, Danielle?"

Danielle canted her head. "That doesn' make any sense. 'Tis rarely profitable if it's yuir land getting trampled. But anyway, just a couple of months. America is very strange."

[vesper_verde]

"Veridian tends to supply for the police rather than military. There are no serious external or internal threats to my country, so we work toward the civilian side of life." He cast an appreciative glance toward Danielle before continuing eating. He was glad someone saw war as not profitable.

Alexander mentally kicked himself. Yes, war was profitable but many mortals didn't believe so. They were appalled by it. He'd learned to see such things from a different perspective but he'd forgotten his present company when making his comment.

He decided to shift the conversation a bit.

"What's your favorite thing about America, Danielle?" Alexander asked the young woman.

Danielle believes her entire family -- the pack, not the mortal side -- are going to die holding off her grandfather when Ragnarok comes, and she's fine with that. It will build a better world, a better peace, than any that came before. But it will take destroying the old one; war was inherently destructive. Midgard wars rarely even included the 'building a better peace' part, so they often didn't gain the participants anything at all. It was sad.

But oh, good, a lovely new topic. "Well, there's always lots of new information. Used to being at Granny's--" when she's on this plane of existance at all. "-- and just learning things alongside my brothers in sisters, and there's nobody around but us and Granny's tenants. But with so many different people, you pick up the information differently."

"That is true. In my few years here in America, I've picked up quite a bit of information." Lots of it on drug dealers and shipments. It helped having low notice powers like his.

"I've learned a lot about fashion and how to start a business in just a few days. It's all very interesting. I also enjoy American football. And basketball. Both of those are a lot of fun." Alexander said.

[frostfurlady]

"If Americans would ever like to start playing real football, I'll try to pay attention."

[vesper_verde]

Marcelo wrinkled his nose at the mention of American football. "I don't find American football entertaining either. Real football is where it's at. Though at least they've civilized enough to have a professional 'soccer' league."

He finished up his food and sat back in the chair. Now, was the obligatory time to sit back and let it digest a bit. "Basketball is alright. It's popular back home. Though not as much as football and volleyball."

It seemed like Danielle and Marcelo shared similar interests. Perhaps he should set them up?

No. That would be taking an interest in humanity besides what they might do for him and since when had he ever done /that/?

"The football you're all accustomed to, I've seen little of. What did I see was interesting, though." Alexander said, also finishing his meal.

He took a look at his watch and noted the time. Almost time to meet with the bankers to set up his account. Then he had his other appointments.

"My, this was fun. I haven't had such sterling company in awhile. But it's time for me to get back to work. A lot more to do before the sun goes down." he said, looking to Marcelo and Danielle.

"I do appreciate you both taking some time out of your day to join me, though."

[frostfurlady]

"Very nice to meet you. Thank you for the help."

[vesper_verde]

Marcelo gathered up his things so he could pay his bill. "You're welcome, Mr. Aaron. But now, I should be off before my secretary sends the bloodhounds after me."

He nodded toward Danielle. "Miss, it was nice to meet you."

"And you!" Danielle agrees, fine with finishing her meal by herself now that she has some reassurance as to how it goes.

Alexander paid his bill but before he left, he looked to Danielle one last time.

"It was good meeting you, Princess. Your father is known to the Olympians." he whispered. "I hope you enjoy your time on Earth." Alexander said.

And then he vanished.
