As opposed to what you all made blow up over social media yesterday and then had egg on your face because it was April Fools Day. I don't know why so many of you thought Tony Stark marrying me was the fabulous truth, but a girl can dream, can't she? First in our salacious bag, we have socialite Roxanne Danvers getting back up on her horse. Or two of them at once, my pets. As I broke the news to you precious readers not long ago, our favorite socialite Danvers has Cadet America living with her. Though after a particularly dour dry spell, she seems to be back on the prowl. While her cut blond cutie is there, she also has a dark and mysterious man visiting often. It doesn't matter what time, day or night, girl's getting back on top. Also seen about town is one Alistaire Shaw. While that's not particularly of note, what is is that he seems to have the same woman on his arm wherever he goes. It seems a Miss Alisa LeBeau has thrown her lot in with the one of the least mentionable Shaws. Sometimes, we forget he's even there, but he's out and about now. Of Miss LeBeau, we've picked up she's an art appraiser of some sort. She caters to the rich and famous. With her following a playboy about town, she's either in for a heartbreak or heavy pockets. I'd watch yourself if you're having anything authenticated by her and then it suddenly ends up in Alistaire Shaw's hands. Though let's just hope this is a nasty... rumor. Speaking of Shaws, we come to the most prominent living one we have in town. Miss Stephanie Shaw has apparently moved on from being dumped by the Brazilian Bronco. First it was a string of boys at Columbia. Apparently none of them measured up to her former mug of hot chocolate. Further solidifying that once she went black, she never went back, she's been seen out romancing Brooke Wyngarde. They've been seen together frequently in public and on a romantic dinner date. They were so taken by Languedoc that they bought it. Shortly thereafter, they went to the Diamond District. Together. I hope to score an invite to the impending nuptials. Since it is legal here in New York and in Miss Shaw's native Spain. It has come to my attention that young Miss Erin Sterling, daughter of Ambassador Maximilian Sterling, has been hanging around the young men of 890 Fifth Avenue. With Roxie Danvers oh so slowly getting back into the swing of things, (only two, dear? tut tut) it seems as though the Avengers have a new blonde minx who's been leaving a lot of wet in her wake. And we don't just mean her ability to control water. And finally, our usual Monday treat, which eligible singletons should you try to score by the week's end? No surprise, the number one guy is Tony Stark. Dress yourself up in nothing but strategically placed iPads and turn his head, darlings. If he's not your thing, try someone a little exotic: Marcelo Alencar da Silva. Rumor has it he's been out at a lot of hot nightspots lately. For those looking for the female persuasion, let's not forget brains and beauty as I have it on good authority Valeria Richards is still single. She appears a little down right now, but the right man could turn that frown upside down. Equally as lovely but a bit more hot-tempered is Eva Worthington. While she has been seen dressing down a few cabbies lately, it's nice to know a girl who knows what she wants and has a nice set of lungs. Don't you think, my cinnamon sticks? "The worst," Brooke grumbled, still not realizing the effect that her emotions were having on those around her. She pursed her lips and handed the newspaper to Brianna. "The Loose Lips column," she explained. "They like writing things about people. I've shown up in it a time or three, but usually, it was nothing this blatantly false."

Brianna took the paper and read the column. The more she read it, the angrier she got.

"Who gave this daft little trollop a column?" Brianna asked, her own anger radiating off her in waves.

"You should sue. There's got to be something one can do about this. It's practically a hit piece." Brianna said.

"Granted, you and your friend are very pretty but this sort of thing shouldn't be speculated on by anyone." she said.

"I suppose that Stephanie and I could go and buy the newspaper, but that would just cause this woman to build her own website and write more things about us," Brooke said off-handedly. She breathed in deeply. Anger made you frown, and frowning made your brow furrow, which created wrinkles.

Wrinkles were bad.

"It's not all bad," she said, forcibly attempting to calm down. "I mean, they could have written something far worse, I suppose. Instead, we're just a power lesbian couple who went on a shopping spree." She shrugged. "It's just that I recently started seeing someone, and I'd rather not...have it get ruined by a terrible lie."

"Or you could find the woman and punch her in throat." Brianna said, enjoying the idea of punching someone in the throat. She hadn't done that in awhile...

"Shopping sprees are fun, though. If nothing else, you did it with a friend." Brianna said. When Brooke mentioned that she was seeing someone, that caused a slight break in Brianna's anger.

"You can hope he isn't into gossip or you can call him and let him know what's going on so he doesn't get blindsided. The latter will let you know if he's worth the trouble in the first place, at the very least." Brianna offered.

"I've never really been the physically violent type," Brooke replied. "The joys of being an empath. I never really have to get my hands dirty." And thus ruin a ridiculously expensive manicure. "It sounds as though you've had some experience in the man trouble arena?"

"I did. There was a boy back home that I thought I was in love with. Only it turned out that he hated mutants. I didn't find out that little tidbit until he led me into an ambush and tried to have me killed." Brianna said.

"He sounds like an absolute sweetheart," Brooke said. "Please tell me you gave him what was obviously coming to him."

"He won't be hurting anyone else." Brianna said, her anger finally broken and now replaced by guilt. Declan's death weighed upon her. Even if he did deserve it, that wasn't /her/ decision to make, was it?

The guilt came off of Brianna in waves. Brooke closed her eyes, manipulating the emotion so that it didn't weigh on Brooke, but not stopping Brianna from feeling it. "He was a useless, hateful sack of blood and tissue," Brooke finally said. "He doesn't deserve your guilt."

"Yes, I know that. But it doesn't make what I did right, either." Brianna said quietly.

"Have you ever done something you felt bad about later?" she asked.

Considering the fact that Brooke had been diagnosed as a sociopath, the honest answer to that was a resounding no.

"Done something that I later regretted? No. Not really." Trivial things like a bad choice in nail colour during a manicure aside, that is.

Danielle remembered to knock before coming into the room, her free hand still clutching her hand. Shields. She had to work on the shields.

Brianna was much calmer now than she'd been before she walked in here. The company wasn't bad at all, either. It was then that Brianna realized she didn't even know her confidant's name.

"Well, that was rude of me. All of this discussion and I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Brianna Lebeau." she said, offering a hand.

When Danielle entered, Brianna smiled. "Hi, Danielle!"

"Brooke," she said, taking Brianna's hand. "Brooke Wyngarde." She attempted a warm smile at Danielle, with whom Brooke hadn't spoken all that much since their first meeting, and rose politely from her seat. "You don't have to knock when I'm in the room, Danielle. It's your room, too." Yes, she realized that she had amends to make with her fellow empath.

She just didn't know how. Brooke wasn't exactly the amending sort.

"Hello, Brianna. Okay, Brooke." She does appreciate that Brooke's rather attempting, in her way.

"Nice to meet you, Brooke." Brianna said. And then she realized that Brooke and Danielle were roommates and realized she must have been more angry than knew to just barge into their room.

"I'm really sorry about this. I usually don't go barging into people's rooms. I was just really out of it earlier. I didn't mean to impose." she said, rising from her seat.

"I should probably go."

"No, please," Brooke said. "You didn't impose at all. As long as Danielle doesn't mind, I'd love for you to stay for a chat." She realized, after all, the need for friends within the Institute. It couldn't just be her and Stephanie all the time.

Despite what Miss Report seemed to be suggesting.

"Aye, 'tis quite all right. What where ye talking about, if you don't mind my asking?"

"Okay, if you say so. But don't forget to handle that issue." Brianna said.

"Danielle, we were talking about some miserable journalist who gets her kicks writing lies about people." Brianna said. "She gives journalists a bad name, actually."

[frostfurlady]

"Och, that's dreadful! Perhaps people should call their solicitors? Granny once had Mummy's blood-father prosecuted for libel."

Achievement unlocked! Danielle thought of a normal Midgard thing to do in the circumstance. Even if she had no idea of the differences between U.S. and U.K. libel laws.

"I joked about buying the paper, but that would probably set this anonymous writer free to write even worse things on the internet," Brooke said. "Besides, buying something that displeased me was what got me, at least, into this mess in the first place."

She sat back down in her comfy armchair and smiled at Danielle. "Though getting everyone who's ever appeared in the Loose Lips column and having them simultaneously sue the paper would be something to see, sure."

Brianna chuckled. "Yeah, I bet they'd verify their stories a little closer after losing a few million dollars." she said.

Danielle listens to them both and nods to parts. But then, canting her head in near-canine confusion, "Thou ist in trouble for buying something? Didst thou forget the silver plastic?"

"Oh, no. I never leave home without the silver plastic. Or the black one, either. Or the blue or the green." She had a lot of different credit cards, that Brooke. "No, a friend and I went to lunch, and when we found some of the things on the menu not to our liking, we bought the restaurant to have the offending items removed," Brooke said, as though it were an everyday occurrence. "We went to the Diamond District afterwards, and the reporter, hearing of the incident, surmised that my friend and I are lovers, which is the trouble."

"Och, well that was rude of her, aye." Buying the restaurant to alter the menu doesn't faze Danielle much. She's used to her family's owning most of anything that can be owned in a pretty wide radius, so she doesn't really have much basis for finding it Brooke's approach odd. Such things are no business of theirs anyway, until a betrothal is announced."
