The portal from Limbo opened easily and without triggering the wards that warned those mystically sensitive of what was happening in the city. S'ym's erstwhile ally had seen to that. Not that S'ym trusted him further than he could throw him, but he had been truthful enough in what he could provide.

Other demons, made temporarily invisible, followed him out of the portal.

"You all know S'ym's plan," he said. "Raise hell out there. Make the humans panic. The more chaos we sow, the weaker our ally makes the barrier between dimensions. And when that happens, he says this world will belong to S'ym! And what's good for S'ym is good for all of you!"

The demons began to cheer.

S'ym puffed on his cigar. "But it's gonna take all of you doin' what we do best. Killin' folks, corruptin' this world, just like we done before. Only there ain't no X-Men here to stop us this time! No little Darkchylde to ruin things! This time... this world... will... be... OURS!"

The demons flew off, ready to raise hell.

The Village was, by and large, a super awesome place to go hang out because it was the one place just weird enough that no one gave two bits about a girl with a trident (though Kassi was getting better about not hauling it everywhere.) But today...the weird was extra special.

"Oh this can't be good."

And no one was really reacting. Except that one guy watching it all with resigned irritation.

"I take it today is not dancing streetlight day here, huh?"

Time to read the trident.

A mail box sprang to life, firing letters at people. A street lamp sprouted arms and legs, turning its lamp light into a focused laser beam.

Tommy pulled his gun as the girl started speaking to him.

"I didn't know New York had one of those. I was really hopin' today would be quiet, mostly because I'm lookin' for a doctor." Tommy said.

"It's New York. They have everything. Including possessed mail delivery systems."

Kassia used her trident to deflect the laser beam back at the street lamp.

Tommy muttered something that sounded a lot like "Damned Yankees" and aimed at a mailbox. He took a shot, hitting the possessed mailbox easily. This was a lot like shooting rats from his bike back home, except that home wasn't full of crazy people, like New York.

"You do this often, Short Stuff?" Tommy asked.

The laser beam bounced back, causing the street lamp to explode in a shower of metal and glass, as the gun caused the mailbox to explode.

More possessed items moved to attack the two.

"Only in the water and usually only against things like kraken. And I'm not short."

Kassi deflected most of the glass and metal spray before turning her trident on a rogue parking meter.

"I'm guessing you're Southern."

"Yep. From Missouri. I saw a trident like that in The Little Mermaid." Tommy said, taking aim at another parking meter.

"I don't suppose you're an actual Mermaiden? I mean, you have to hang out in the water, right?" he asked, popping off the next shot.

One by one, the demonic objects fell under the duo's attacks. But there were still more of them.

"I'm a mermaid, but I don't have to to always be in the water."

Kassi smacked a trash can.

Tommy kicked another mailbox and shot a trash can.

"We've got to get out of here. They've got numbers over us. God, I could use a drink right now." he muttered.

Other things continued to come to life, even as the other things died.

"Okay." She kicked away a parking meter. "Give me your hand then. I'll get us the hell out of here."

"All right. Let's go." he said, offering her his free hand.

Demonic items snapped at them as they fled.

Kassi closed her hand around his and squeezed it with a surprisingly strong grip. She swung her trident one more time to clear a few more o the items from her path and then lifted up off the ground, taking Tommy with her.
