Who Will Defend Us?
Manhattan
Central Park
April
1:26 pm
The portal from Limbo opened easily and without triggering the wards that warned those mystically sensitive of what was happening in the city. S'ym's erstwhile ally had seen to that. Not that S'ym trusted him further than he could throw him, but he had been truthful enough in what he could provide.
Other demons, made temporarily invisible, followed him out of the portal.
"You all know S'ym's plan," he said. "Raise hell out there. Make the humans panic. The more chaos we sow, the weaker our ally makes the barrier between dimensions. And when that happens, he says this world will belong to S'ym! And what's good for S'ym is good for all of you!"
The demons began to cheer.
S'ym puffed on his cigar. "But it's gonna take all of you doin' what we do best. Killin' folks, corruptin' this world, just like we done before. Only there ain't no X-Men here to stop us this time! No little Darkchylde to ruin things! This time... this world... will... be... OURS!"
The demons flew off, ready to raise hell.

"Ze woman who cut a car in half needs me to stop zem? I theenk you overestimate me."
Things on tires were not as quiet as they thought they were. As they reared up, there was rubber squeaking. Vesper grabbed something out of his pouch and threw it at the grill of one of them. Smoke bomb. Great.
"Watch out!" Vesper dove out of the way as the possessed taxis charged.

Reflexes took over and it seemed like something or someone else was guiding her hands as she sliced, cutting a gash in the grill of the nearest taxi.

They snapped and growled at the heroes.

Vesper spread his wings with a metallic sching. He was less worried about dampening the sound than trying to get out of there alive.
He held out one hand to the weird lady while his other hand pulled out a small flare gun. He fired a flare at the coughing taxi.
"Come with me if you want to attack ze vulnerable tops."

She really wanted to curl up in a ball and whimper under it was all over. But the blood was pounding in her head, and some inner voice was urging her to fight and slash and stab and...
She grabbed his hand.

He used his silencing powers to hide the noise of the engine portion of his wings. He put it to full throttle to get the pair of them in the air. He pushed off with his legs to get them aloft and let his wing pack do the rest.

Yeah, this day had gone all kinds of crazy. And it was getting harder and harder to imagine that it was just a bad dream and that she was going to wake up safe in her bed and that this whole thing with the sword and the funny Shakespeare talking voice in her head was just a dream.
As they passed over the taxis, she slashed with the sword, ripping a pair of them open.

"I fly over ze taxis, you slice zem to pieces, non?"
no subject
"Oui," she agreed, readying her sword as best she could.

He climbed a little higher into the air. Then he swooped down and around.

She swung her sword, putting the strange physical power she now possessed behind the blow, cleaving more of the taxis in half.
"Look," she said, pointing with the sword. "The other ones are running scared."
no subject
"We cannot let zem get away. Some of zem have people in zem."
He swooped around a light pole and over the sidewalk to come up alongside one. All while not managing to drop the woman in his arms. He deserved a really strong drink when he got home.

"Hold on," he warned through gritted teeth. He had the wings adjust and rolled them through the air away from biting cars.

"Sorry. Step on ze top of my feet to brace your legs." This holding a swordswoman while flying was a lot more complicated than he figured. Not that he had ever planned for anything like this.
As they climbed, Vesper took a quick look to see how many possessed taxis were left.
no subject
There weren't many left. A mere two remained.
"I think... I think we're... winning?"
no subject
He could bank left after she cut that one and they could maybe get the second one.

"Zere you go."
