Dire News At The Door ((Open For All Reactions))

Mrs. Mary MacNeilly's report to the New York State Education Department was far from glowing. Her report caused a lot more concern and shock than normal process usually allowed. They did their research on previous inspections just to see how long this mutant school problem had been going on. Despite their research showing there had never been an issue as large as what was put before them, they had to take action on what Mrs. MacNeilly had reported.

The NYSED informed the superintendent in the district Xavier's was located in of the issue. They also got in touch with Westchester County's office about Xavier's certificate of occupancy due to the structural damage Mrs. MacNeilly had witnessed happening to the school building. With the report of mutants on the grounds the state and county governments got their information squared away before sending representatives to the school with protection from law enforcement. Child Protective Services got into the loop after being informed of a young girl living at the school surrounded by mutants who quite possibly could not control their powers.

As the media got wind of what was coming to a quiet yet secretive school in upstate New York, TV stations sent crews out. Some of the government representatives were glad to talk vaguely about what was happening at the school live. With the cameras aimed to put the people going into the school on film, a TV reporter stepped into the frame.

"This is Samantha Boulevard here not far from the town of Salem Center in Westchester County. Government officials from the New York State Education Department are here delivering a notice of probation for the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. The school came under scrutiny recently during an inspection by a certified educational inspector. My sources have told me that this school poses as a private institution for education but has been revealed to be habitat for mutants."

"A habitat for mutants?" Topher was sitting in the common room at the Xavier Institute, curled up in his sweats, his plate of jalapeno poppers suddenly forgotten about.

"That...that makes us sound like some kind of...like this place is some sort of zoo or something!"

Bobbi had been passing by with her soccer ball and stood in the door way. "Well looks like I'm not going outside to play for a bit. And seems more like a cult thing... You know when they hole up somewhere to live." And she realizes she's probably not helping much.

"Sorry."

"No need to apologize," Topher replied. "Least of all to me." He turned to look at Bobbi. "It's funny. For all of the general ostracizing that society does to mutants, we've never really faced anything horribly overt, you know? Most of us, we pass enough for human that we don't directly feel the brunt of their hatred. But this...this changes everything."

She stayed silent a few moments her blue eyes watching the TV screen as she moved closer. Her wings shifted uneasily as he spoke.

"The school's dealt with this before right? I mean there's some sort of plan in motion already? We just have to weather it?" Though she caught that it wasn't a local channel he was watching. She had a feeling she'd be getting a phone call from her parents soon enough.

"Not...quite like this," Topher said carefully. "This is huge. Not Jean-Grey-is-back-from-the-dead huge, but more...this might change the way we live our lives huge."

She gave a quirked brow at that, though she nodded. "I figured that much... Just hoping that it won't be for the worst."

"We could always get lucky by Scarlet Witch having a meltdown and going no-more-baseline-humans, but I don't think that's actually going to happen," Topher quipped lightly. "I'm honestly not sure how this is going to play out."

She nodded a little though the temperature around her dropped at least a degree with her worry. Bobbi swallowed hard.

"I wouldn't want anyone else hurt because of us though. Or is that wishful thinking?"

"It's a lot idealistic," Topher replied. "But I understand the sentiment."

She sighed a little. "Can you blame me? I still read fairy tales before going to sleep." She did give a small smile though. Even though her thoughts wondered if the idealism was her trying not to become whatever they wanted her for when she was made.

"I don't blame you one bit, Bobbi." Topher sighed heavily. "I'm not sure if this is going to mean the return of Asteroid M in a new capacity, or Genosha, or...I don't even know." He rubbed the back of his head thoughtfully. "I don't even...man. How did the Morlocks put up with this?"

She looked puzzled a little bit. "Morlocks? Sorry, I'm still working though the school's history I haven't read the other groups yet." Hey she's been trying! She remembers reading about Genosha and thought that just screamed a bad idea.
