Coffee Break (open, Future Foundation)

Doctor Power (if that didn't make for a good hero name, she didn't know what did, even if she was mostly out of that business) had spent most of the morning in the high energy lab. Where they tried to develop energy sources that would better mankind.

And not lead to the destruction of the planet. Whitey had been very specific about that.

But today was proving to be especially frustrating. Between some of the lab guys and the experiments themselves...

So she was down in the cafeteria getting coffee and a doughnut.

Sweet, sweet caffeine.

It didn't take long for the seat across from her to be suddenly occupied by Franklin Richards, who happened to be carrying a bouquet of wildflowers, which he presented to her with a smile. Wildflowers that didn't grow anywhere in the vicinity of New York, or, indeed, the entire Northeastern United States.

"For you." He handed them over to her. The large flower in the centre of the arrangement had been picked for her from Table Mountain in Africa, being a king protea, the others had been picked from various locations in the Alps.

"How is work today?"

"Oh, my God!" Katie exclaimed. "These are beautiful! Thank you!"

She took them from him, carefully. She didn't know flowers, but she had a guess these weren't local.

"Eh. Not so great. We're trying to tap into some extradimensional energy sources, and it isn't going particularly well."

"Also got you some chocolate." He took a wrapped box and put it before her. "Picked those up with the edelweiss." He smiled at her. "Just another grinding day at the office? I know even Dad had headaches from some of those potential energy sources. Nevermind some of them turned out to be intelligent lifeforms ..."

"When are you off work? Maybe I can make your day a little better with dinner?"

"You are way too good to me," Katie said. She nodded. "And then there's the energy sources I have to tell people they've spent their whole lives working on will blow up the Earth if they actually use them."

A grin. "I'd like that."

"I could be meaner if you liked." Franklin smiled. "I'll poke you like this." He gently poked her shoulder. "Until you get really annoyed and decide you like the nice things more." He had a bit of a reputation as a brooder, but he could be a silly goof with the best of them.

"Awesome. Indian? Thai? Or we could go to that French restaurant with the mutant chef. I hear he's got superhuman senses, so everything's really, really precise in terms of flavor profiles."

"You could try," she teased.

Another nod. "Thai sounds good," she said. "Went out for Indian with my sister last night."

"I'll keep that in mind. Can think of a few things I'd rather do, though." He leaned in to give her a quick kiss, as if by demonstration. "Thai it is. The usual place?" There was a little hole in the wall restaurant not too far from the Future Foundation that was run by recent Thai immigrants. One basically had to order food by pointing at the pictures on the menu, but it was fantastic. Authentic, and delicious.

"Sounds good to me," Katie said.

"She asked how you were doing, so I told her you were doing fine. She also asked if you were going to propose any time soon. I told her to go hassle Alex."

"Of course she asked. She started asking about a month and a half after we started dating." Franklin took it in stride, though. Right now, honestly, he was enjoying just being with Katie. Marriage was something that made him a little nervous, partly because he worried about whether he'd be a great husband. It wasn't as if he were going to get mad about it, though. The way he saw it, it was a sign of approval.

"I'm sure she does." His smile widened a little bit. "I'd almost be worried about her if she didn't hassle us about marriage."

Between Alex, Julie, and Jack, Katie had never exactly had the easiest time dating anyone, though especially during those times when she wasn't dating Franklin. But she liked where she was right now, both with him, and with her life in general.

"Think she's supposed to have some bit part in a movie coming out soon. Though, of course, she plays it up for bigger than it is."

Still, Katie was proud of her sister.

"Hey, nothing wrong with that. I bet she'll be an awesome bystander. And it's hard to get even those parts without the connections." Franklin knew a few people who had tried to get into acting and failed miserably. As for himself, he didn't think he'd be very great at it. He had enough trouble playing the part of himself sometimes.

"Who knows, maybe this one will be her big break. Sometimes that's the way it happens."

"I hope so," Katie agreed. "She's been trying for a while now."

"You know if she ever becomes super famous, all those Power Pack stories would sell an awful lot of copies of an autobiography." Franklin grinned. "You should beat her to the punch. Also, Dr. Power. That would also sell lots of copies of a book. I'd buy a book by Dr. Power, even if I had no idea it was you."

Katie just laughed. "Even for a world like ours, I think some of our Power Pack adventures were too unbelievable."

"Like the fact that I would ever go by or allow myself to go by the name Tattletale." Franklin smirked. "Completely and utterly ridiculous."

"Ever thought about having a reunion? Even just for the heck of it?"

"Hey, we were five. That made sense."

She nodded. "Could be a lot of fun. We haven't all been under the same roof for a while. Julie's out in Hollywood, Jack's a SHIELD agent, Alex is off trying to be big hero guy..."

"You should do it then. Get the old gang together." Franklin grinned. "Jack and Alex will probably want to scare me into making an honest woman of you." Especially Jack. Not that he was unfriendly, but he certainly had very strong opinions about how Franklin should be with Katie.

Though at least he seemed to approve on some level. He'd heard stories of other boyfriends.

"Should see if Friday can make the trip out too," Katie mused.
