Family Vist

Danielle was always happy to visit her Distinguished Distant Cousin. All the more so when in a strange place like America. She carefully followed the directions she'd been given -- she'd even gotten plenty of little gold coins with pictures of sacagawea on them, so she could understand them better as money -- until she reached Avengers mansion.

She rang the doorbell.

Danielle was probably lucky that it was her DDC who answered the door, given some of the peanut gallery who occupied the Mansion. She'd caught him at a good time, too. A couple of days from now, and he'd be out of down, helping deal with some hurricane victims.

"Cousin!" Nicky's face brightened when he saw who was standing on the doorstep. He reached out to give the girl a hug. Of all the people he'd expected to be standing at the doorstep - not that there were all that many - Danielle hadn't even made the list.

Still, he enveloped her in a warm hug before ushering her in. "What brings you here? And can I get you anything? Water, coffee, mead?"

"Trust me, it's great to see someone from back home," Nicky said. Since being thrown out of Asgard, he'd really only had Vincent and Audhild, and he hadn't really seen all that much of either of them.

Nicky shut the door behind them and led Danielle to the spacious, but somehow still warm and cozy, kitchen in the Mansion. He served his cousin an ice cold glass of water before taking one for himself. "Are you hungry?" he asked, peering into the fridge. "...and what do you mean, catch me up on things?" He peered over the refrigerator door at Danielle. "Is everything okay?"

"Oh." Nicky blinked and shut the refrigerator door. There was a platter of meats and cheese and bread and fruit in his hands. Jarvis was always good that way, having set aside a few platters that could be used for quick entertaining - or large appetites.

He set the food on the table and then sat down across from Danielle. "Wow." He took a gulp of water as he mulled over everything that Danielle had said. "So, you're an empath, then?" Nicky was lucky in that he'd never actually been given any powers similar to that. He wasn't sure how he'd deal with it. "How long have you been here?" So many questions!

"I'm so sorry," Nicky apologized. "If I'd known you were here, I would have stopped by Xavier's earlier. Shown you the ropes and all that. Midgard is...very different from home. How are you adjusting?"

"But still, if you need anything...I know Xavier's isn't exactly next door, but I'm just a phone call and a quick flight away." Because she was family, and man, was he ever grateful to have someone from home in town with him. Sure, there was Samantha, who he saw every once in awhile, but this was different.

"You hesitated when you said fine. Is everything really okay?"

Yeah, having to share a room with a complete stranger could be difficult. The Avengers kids were lucky in that they hardly ever actually had to pair up like that.

He chuckled softly. "Yes, I know very well how that goes. Can you see if you can share your room with someone else? Maybe if there are real issues between you guys, they'll allow it."

"Two empaths in a room?" Nicky blinked. "Wow. I can't imagine what that would be like, if you guys were both projecting emotions onto each other."

"That's understandable. Though it's unfortunate if the two of you don't get along." Then again, Nicky, being ever the pacifist... "Perhaps the more time you spend together, the more you'll find that you have more in common than simply your powers. Some common connections that you can build a friendship from."

"She'll warm up to you. It'd be hard not to."
