Welcome to the Dark Side of New Orleans (Kayla)

"...where the living are easily lost. And the dead stick around to play." said the long-haired man directing the street tours of the French Quarter.

Brianna rolled her eyes even as she led Kayla down the street behind the obvious tourists of the city. She held Kayla's hand smiled as she looked up and down the streets at the French-influenced architecture and the people that milled about the area. A portion of her heritage came from this place and sometimes it was still hard for her to believe. She'd been raised in the luxury and class of England but her father, the mutant thief extraordinaire known as Gambit, was determined that his little girl would not grow up not knowing how to survive when the money ran out or she wasn't able to live as high on the hog as her mother taught her. Granted, her mother also never allowed her live without defenses but her father taught her to thieve, to con and to take what others weren't watching and use it for her benefit.

She'd never had the chance to really use her skills but she was glad to be here with someone she cared about. Brianna didn't think about the added benefit that this kept her from discussing her relationship with Kayla with her mother and father. She had no idea how they'd take it and, right now, she didn't want to know.

"Are you having any fun yet?" Brianna asked Kayla.

Kayla pretty much just goes through life with various songs stuck in her head

If Kayla brought sunshine and laughter into Brianna's life, then, well, she was flattered and thrilled and would continue to do so. It was fortunate, because she was very, very terrible at being anyone other than herself. She'd tried once upon a time, and it was a failure.

"Chicken wings now, beer later." Kayla let herself be led down the alleyway and towards Jumbo's Wings. She could already smell the sauces from the wings. "So what's your favorite kind of wing sauce?"

"Shoulda figured." Kayla smirked slightly. "Lucky. Ugh, food when I was a kid was always so damned bland. My last year at home I'd taken to having a bottle of sriracha so I could make the food actually taste like something. Spicy is good."

"You've clearly never had the Suicide Wings back home. You would not say such a thing about buffalo sauces not having enough kick if you had. There was these Maple BBQ wings I absolutely loved, though. Sticky, sweet, a little heat. Just a perfect balance. And come on, Canadian, maple syrup?

Everything's better with maple syrup."

"Yeah, you have." Kayla grinned. "You just don't know it because it's been snuck into all that food you've been eating at Xavier's. You forget I'm Hana's little helper elf in the kitchen." She couldn't help but give Brianna a quick kiss there.

"Trust me when I say Suicide Wings are hot. Insanely hot. Masochistically hot. But the Maple BBQ wings are probably better overall in a flavour sense. I like spicy, but it's got to bring a good flavour or I lose my taste for it pretty quickly."

Kayla smirked slightly. "Well, we'd better get a lot of them, then, because I'm absolutely fucking starving."

"Sounds awesome." Kayla agreed readily as they found their seats. It was a good thing that it was North American custom to get free refills, because she drained her soda almost immediately. "I'm all up ons parade dancing. We can shake things up a little." A beat. "Well, not literally. Pretty sure we don't need some sort of seismic event in an almost entirely flat city."
