WHEN: Approximately a week after the incident in the kitchen
WHERE: X-Mansion Infirmary
WHAT: Illyana is brought in to help Kayla in dire straits

After the dramatic moments in the kitchen, Kayla's depression and lassitude had crumbled into what was virtually a waking coma. Her life force wasn't quite low enough to kill her outright, but her life force did not burn brightly enough to sustain anything like ordinary life. They had to summon Magik, the sorceress best known to the X-Men, in hopes that she would find a solution to their problems. Eventually, something of a solution had been found- but it required a rather complicated spell and the donation of accumulated life force from several people in order to patch up Kayla's own.

There would be consequences from this spell. The people involved wouldn't feel quite right for a few days afterwards- nothing like Kayla's extreme case, but some fatigue and mild depression were likely. Diluted elements of their personalities could be reflected in Kayla for some time thereafter. After such a prolonged period of lassitude and depression, it was likely that Kayla would manifest, after a rather long sleep, a significant manic phase.

Right now, the girl had been placed into a full magical coma, looking just as serene as a modern day Sleeping Beauty. It would be time for the magic to work its course.

"Hey," Rose assured Kayla, "yer one of us. That makes ya family."

"You guys are better than the family I was born into. Way the fuck better." Kayla reached out and gave Rose's hand a little squeeze. "It means the world to me. Sincerely."

"Oh hey there ... I'm Kayla. Uh, nice to meet you." Kayla smiled. "And thank you! They're lovely." Her smile widened. "We'll have to get to know each other and stuff tomorrow, when I'm out of here. Silly doctors tell me I need to stay overnight."

"Aye, of course. I will just leave these flowers here for you..." He closed his eyes, focusing his telekinetic powers to float the flowers over to Kayla. He appeared to be worried about actually stepping INTO the room. "Bobbi helped me pick them. I am sure she will stop by later. Please take care and uhh... it was nice meeting you! I am sure we will meet again some other time."

Dolemeck turned around and started to head out of the ward. That just felt awkward, but nice at the same time. He did something good, along with everyone else at this school. Nothing could be more beautiful than that.

"Uh...huh," Rose said after a moment. "Dunno what ta make of that guy yet. Feathers seems ta like him though."

"Snow Devil likes everyone. Or everyone that hasn't given her a really, really good reason not to like them. Seems like a nice guy, but not my type." Kayla laughed and set the feathers down.

"So sometime a little later this summer, we should finally do that girls-only camping trip."

"Real campin', though," Rose said. "None of the fancy stuff."

"Suits me. You think any of the others know how to clean a fish?" Because she was assuming Rose had known that since she could walk. "We should go up to Canada lake country. Because it's been way too long since I've had some pickerel."

"Depends on if they've taken any of Pops' survival courses yet," Rose said.

She nodded. "I like the way you think, Shake 'n' Bake."

"The other thing about Canada lake country is that ... well, there is the possibility of certain acquisitions. Entirely legally." Kayla smirked slightly. "Because certain laws vary from country to country.

I learned before that, actually. Went up to the cabin a bunch of times as a kid. Not to mention a gazillion weeks at bible camp. I can also set a decent squirrel snare, but pickerel might go down better with the other girls."

Rose laughed. "Aaaah, yes. Beer."

She made it sound like a holy word.

"Beer." Kayla replied with a big smile, speaking the word like a sacrament.

Rose grinned, then actually laughed. "You, yer all right."
