Assault on PEGASUS

Project PEGASUS, located outside Mount Athena, New York, was one of the premier energy research facilities in the world, exploring all manner of exotic technologies and resources.  It had, at times, been used to hold energy-empowered super-criminals, and had, at times, boasted super-humans as their security directors, ranging from the Thing to the Blue Shield to Darkhawk.  Neither of those were a factor these days.

But it was still a tempting target to many a super-villain and other criminals. 

Such as today.  Several members of the Lethal Legion had arrived, assaulting the compound.

A call for help went out to the Avengers.

Okay, more energy. Nicky hadn't expected that. He raced after the axe and got caught in a blast of energy.

It sent him spinning away for a moment.

"Gah!" Bruce let out a grunt as the first of the arrows sliced across him, hurting a little, but not too much yet. He threw up a force field around himself to deflect the rest of the barrage.

"Oh, that's nice," Doctor Spectrum said. "A force shield. Let's see how strong it is."

What was the best thing to bring down a force shield with?

Why, a battering ram, of course!

"Aww. Poor Abominable Babyman. No brains with his brawn." He scratched his chin as his mighty smack only moved Big Blue back only a little.

Which was hardly a defensive posture to take against an incoming punch. It connected solidly sending Jay back more than a little.

"Oof!" Jay grinned as he pulled himself back up. He cracked his knuckles. "Fear not! I will inspire you all by charging blindly on!"

He charged again. However, this time he went a little lower for a grapple. It would be fun fighting someone who didn't break.

He laughed, grinning behind his helmet. "So much for the mighty Avenger."

The Abomination locked into grappling with Jay.

"Give it up, kid. I'm strong enough to fight the real Hulk. And you ain't him."

"Ah, but Blue Grasshopper is not smart enough to run from me," Jay quipped as he tried to get both arms around the Abomination's legs. With his opponent grappling him in turn, he didn't worry about keeping his chest close.

With his center of balance a lower than normal, he tried to lift and slam his opponent down. If he went for the ride as well, it didn't matter. He was sturdy, too.

The Abomination began to topple, but tightened his grip on Jay as he went down.

It should be impossible to brace yourself in mid-air, but Bruce was able to do that, concentrating his energy into the front of his forcefield and withstanding the battering ram.

Okay, Bruce, think. Doctor Spectrum... looks like he's got the same kind of Power Prism as the other ones... Weaknesses... Ultra-violet light.

Bruce's powers came from absorbing solar energy, though he could absorb other forms as well. And, of course, in absorbing solar energy... there was a lot of ultra-violet energy.

He brought his hands forward and unleashed a focus blast of ultra-violet light.

If Doctor Spectrum could have created a line-faced smiley out of his energy-wielding abilities, he would have. Instead, he yelled in shock and surprise. The blast of UV light was unexpected, and unexpectedly awful.

He wasn't supposed to figure this out this soon!

With another yell, he took off in another direction. Fine. Captain Marvel wanted a fight? Doctor Spectrum would fly away and make it a chase, until he could turn around and make the fight his.

His axe was in hand again. Nicky let out a warrior cry and flew back after the Cobalt Man. "I haven't even started yet, buddy."

"Dammit...." Bruce swore. He pushed his speed, following after the villain.

The Cobalt Man took to the air, trying to avoid a direct physical confrontation. His armor wasn't strong enough for a direct confrontation with a god.

"Oof! You're not my type! Getcher lovin' elsewhere, scalebutt." Even as Jay complained, he went down with the Abomination. Though he would test to see if the Abomination had a soft, squishy underbelly with his knuckles. Since his foe was nice enough to hold him, he gave several powerful one inch punches.

Maybe he had watched one too many Bruce Lee Youtube videos the night before.

The Abomination grunted under the impact of Jay's blows, shoving him away as he got back up.

"You got guts, kid," he growled. "I'll give you that."

He slammed the ground with a foot, sending a shockwave through it.

Tactic: Pester Him to Defeat was working a-okay to Jay's mind.

"Of course I do! In a few minutes, you'll find out how much my guts hold when the bean burritos catch up to me." The green teen grinned as he rolled away. He was in the process of trying to get up when the shockwave roiled the ground.

Jay tried bodysurfing it to his feet. "Whooooaaa! Terrestrially tubular, dude!"

"Oh look. Eyebeams. Woo."

Ree was not impressed. A beam bounced off her steel form and she bent it back at Basilisk.

"What the hell?!" he cried out, throwing himself out of the way of the returning beams.

"What the hell are you made out of, toots?"

"No no, don't do that," Nicky said. "You guys wanted a fight? Fine. But then you don't get to run." Once again, the axe went flying through the air. Really, for all of his peaceful intentions, once Nicky was out for blood, he really was out for blood.

He darted around the Cobalt Man, who apparently had the Asgardian Angel in pursuit of him.

It's like a bad game of tag, he thought as he turned back every so often to blast Captain Marvel with some throwing stars that he created.

Bruce poured on the speed, taking a moment to note Nicky's situation. He focused on keeping his own forcefield up, but threw out a hand, shooting a beam of energy past Spectrum, to form a forcefield wall in front of him.

Concentrating more on putting some space between himself and Nicky, the axe struck the Cobalt Man in the back, causing him to cry out and knocking him from the sky.

He hit the ground with a great crash.

"Shuuuut uuuup!" He grabbed a piece of rubble and threw it at Jay.

"Angry. I'm made out of angry," Ree said very calmly albeit sharply. "And PMS."

Jay managed to get to his feet from the shockwave. Just in time for some rubble to come flying at him.

"Neeeeeevvveeeeeeer! FALCON PUNCH!" The young Hulk swung a big fist toward the rubble to show what mighty knuckles of busting could do. Though some of the dust made his eyes water and him sneeze.
