The Hit(men) Just Keep Coming

It took a bit of scouting to find a rooftop with the right vantage point for the job he was employed for. One Marcelo Alencar da Silva had a big price on his head. Bullseye meant to collect on it. He had been contacted by Assassin Nation after one of the regular stable of killers failed.

The man dressed mostly in red wasn't the first one to have this moniker, but he planned on doing better than his predecessor. He set up his rifle on a rooftop a half mile away from the mark's penthouse apartment. Bullseye sniffed at the hot New York City air as he sighted the killzone. There were very soft metallic clinks beneath his flowing red overcoat.

He had strict instructions to leave the mark's wife unharmed. As she was a mutant, Bullseye figured distance would be the best buffer he could use when he blew da Silva's brains out. It gave him a chance to prepare at worst or the time to disappear at best.

He chambered his specially designed cartridge. Bullseye looked down his telescopic sight and waited. The happy newlywed should show up soon. The assassin had seen the mark's wife pass by the killzone not too long ago.

Stephanie nodded and leaned into him a little, on his good side.

"No barbecue ribs." Stephanie ghosted back at him. "Why don't we try that Ethiopian takeout place we're always wanting to get food from? I've heard good things about it."

He slipped an arm around her as she leaned against him. It felt better than holding his own side.

"That sounds good. If it's terrible, I can just eat you later." He smiled innocently.

He was going to try anything to distract her from the darker bits of their life at the moment.

It worked.

"Mmm. I like the thought of that." Stephanie grinned. "Though seeing as you're the one who needs a little extra care today ..." She quirked her eyebrows slightly.

"I mean, what sort of nurse would I be and not take care of you?"

Marcelo laughed. Which hurt. So, it wasn't a very long laugh.

"No Symkarian mercenaries to walk in on us either. I think, querida, we can take care of each other." He kissed her temple. "I'll rate the quality of care with my own two fingers."

Stephanie would normally have poked him at this particular juncture. That seemed inappropriate, though, because he'd just been poked in a very more violent, bloody way.

"Serves her right for not knocking." Stephanie replied with a smirk, before impulsively kissing him again. "I'm certain, but you come first tonight."

The elevator dinged at them. Good thing he was wounded or he would have locked the elevator. And then tried to find a way to block the security camera. That... was more complicated and less sexy then he had originally thought.

"Amo-te." Nights like tonight, he sometimes felt he didn't say it enough. He waited for the elevator door to open.

The elevator obligingly opened, and they were free to leave.

"Mi amor." Stephanie murmured back softly as she kissed his neck. "Come on, let's go, we've got an appointment to make."

"Or show up and pay for a month's operating costs." He knew exactly which clinic to go to. It was a little out of the way, but it was run by people who wanted to help. As opposed to a front for any of the gangs he spent his night fighting.

His strides weren't as large as they normally were. He was starting to realize how connected his side was to everything else. But he was moving along decently.

"It will be a small drive, but I know a good place with no questions asked."
