Fallen Skies (Future Foundation)

Bobby Quill's day was great, right before he grabbed that cube.

He grabbed the Cube and the Kree were shooting at him. The race back to his ship was enough to get his heart pumping but the Badoon shooting at him from the upper atmosphere were a pain in the rear. He escaped Carida and took off at warp speed across the galaxy in his ship, Excalibur, hoping to outrun his pursuers.

He came out of hyperspace near Saturn and felt safe enough to holo-chat with his mother.

"Bobby! Hi, sweetie! Where are you?"

"Hey, mom! I'm not quite sure where I am right now. Just out crusin' the space ways. You know how it is." he said.

She nodded, her eyes narrowing as he looked around the ship. Kitty Pryde was no one's fool, so when she saw the rings of Saturn through the canopy of her son's ship, she turned her gaze back at her son.

"Are you in jail again?" 

"Mom, really? I would never call you from jail. That's Dad's thing, remember? I think I'm in the Andromeda galaxy anyway. I've never ever been to jail here before." he told her.

"Oh, okay. Just wondering. Because I know what the rings of Saturn look like and I know that you know what they look like. So if you're trying to surprise me, you --" 

KRA-KOOM!

The ship lurched as cannon fire struck and Bobby cursed aloud as he ran toward the cockpit. He hopped into the pilots chair, calling for his AI to give him a heads-up on what hit him.

Badoon fighter-ships incoming, Bobby.

"Bobby? That was cannon fire. Where are you and why are people shooting at you?"

"Mom, can I call you back? You know it makes me nervous when you talk while I fly." he said, focusing on the small gap he could see in the alien formation.

"Bobby, do not hang up on me. Tell me where you are." 

Bobby shut down the channel, knowing that she'd be a little mad at him later. If he lived through this, he'd buy her flowers to apologize.

The people of New York would hear the sonic boom as the silver-and-blue ship broke into the upper atmosphere as his ship streaked toward the ground. Excalibur ship had taken a beating already and it was all he could do to stay awake long enough to keep it from crashing into a populated center.

It was a sheer miracle that the ship didn't shatter on impact but when it landed in the harbor, it began to sink. Bobby would have liked to do something about it but once he landed, he was out cold.

"On it, boss." Jacob was just sliding into the pilot's chair and he busied himself getting it ready to take off. "Move it, Mary. Alexa's getting itchy trigger fingers and it scares me."

Bobby rolled over as the Badoon came toward, his hand searching the floor for his Element Gun. He reached into the bag and came out with said gun, thumbing it fire.

He took two quick shots, trying to throw them off-balance long enough for him to get to his feet.

Fortunately, a small bug flew in and quickly transformed into Mary, landing in the chair next to Jacob. "Hi ho, Rocky! Away!"

"Time to pew pew," Alexa said and sent a laser blast at the Badoon.

"See, sweetie, this is how mama zaps bad guys."

That was either a little unsettling or endearingly sweet. Remi wasn't going to ponder it at the moment. Alexa was keeping things contained and entertaining a very young baby.

Once Mary was with them, Remi settled in. "Ryan can catch up to us at the location. Let's fly."

"Houston, we have lift off!" Jacob launched the Fantasticar into the air, setting in the shortest, most direct route to the crash site. "Should be there in just a few minutes. Alexa's lasers should be able to hold them at bay until then."

God knows he wouldn't want to be on the other end of those beams.

Bobby saw the laser blasts take out two of the Badoon coming at him and his eyes went wide. The Badoon stopped paying attention to Bobby for a moment to address the source of the laser beams.

He raised his hands and hoped that someone was seeing things.

"I SWEAR to whatever deity you believe in that I am NOT with these guys!" he said, throwing up his hands.

Mary let out a little gasp as the scene came into view.

"That's a lot of Badoon. They give the rest of us reptiles a bad name."

Ryan's alert had gone off while he'd been at an audition. He'd made his apologies and booked as quickly as possible, his clothes transforming into his costume as he jetted off towards where the danger was.

He flew up next to Mary, all purple sparkles, and surveyed the scene.

"So," he said. "Happy Wednesday."

"Is it Wednesday? I lost track." New little baby sucked away Remi's sense of time. He shrugged to himself and got an invisible shield up.

"Jacob, find a place to land or have Alexa remotely fly it somewhere safe. Let's hit 'em." He launched himself out of the Fantasti-Car as his shield shaped into a protective battering ram. The Atlantean flew toward the invading lizard people.

Mary grew herself a pair of wings, and took off from the Fantasti-Car after Remi. "Let's kick butt!"

Bobby was expecting to get vaporized right then. If the Badoon didn't do it, then the laser cannons would.

When someone fell from the sky to attack the Badoon, he wasn't sure what to think. He looked up and saw what was, quite possibly, the third-coolest ship he'd ever seen in the area.

Then there was a flying Skrull! He didn't even know that Earth /had/ Skrulls!

The Badoon saw that the tables were turning against them. Those that could flee, fled back to their ship. They wanted to get airborne before Earth's defenders came at them. It would be hard to explain their failure, but getting captured would be far, far worse.

Alexa sent another laser blast at the Badoon, just for good measure.

"And that is what sane people call overkill, sweetie, but mama just calls fun with lasers."

Ryan watched them go and frowned gently. "Well, that was anti-climatic," he said. "All dressed up and no one to fight." Pity.

Bobby looked at his rescuers, then looked at his ship...which had now sank into the harbor.

He started to walk forward to thank the earthlings helping him, but a funny thing happened on the way. His body finally came down from the adrenaline high.

"Hey guys...my name is...Bo..."

Bobby Quill collapsed from his injuries, falling flat on his face on the pier.

"Well," Mary said. "That was... unexpected? Cute guys don't usually fall out of the sky like that."

"Just bring him back to the lab or something so we can figure out who he is and why the Badoon were after him. I promise not to shoot him with lasers."

Remi looked at the prone and unconscious 'Bo', at Mary, and then at the sky since Alexa was not readily available to stare at. He sighed as a muscle in his jaw twitched.

He tried to slide a shield under the Badoon-bait and lift him.

"Ryan, check what's left of the Badoon on the shore. See if any are alive or have any technology worth scrounging. Jacob, bring the Car around. Let's go home."
