Rendezvous (After the Godstorm)

"It's good to see you made it through the storm, Ms. Burton. We were concerned you wouldn't make it back."

"Thank you for the concern, Wallace. It's been pure bedlam out there," Millicent spoke to the hotel receptionist. Ingrid Burton was the alias Millicent was using while in the States. "Has my roommate checked in?"

"She has, Ms. Burton> Should I let her know you've arrived?"

"Thank you, but no. She knows I'm on the way."

The receptionist nods and hands her her copy of the key to the apartment that she shared with Adrienne. She promptly took the elevator up to the top floor, making her way over to their suite. She gave aknock on the door.

"Louisa? It's Ingrid." She called Adrienne by her assumed name.

Adrienne bit her tongue to keep from laughing and hid her grin behind her hand.

She hadn't seen Millicent this flummoxed in years.

"Well, dere is dis wonderful chicken piccata wit' pasta dey make here." Alisa continued to smile. "I whole-heartily recommend it. Maybe a nice white wine to go with it, as well."

"Brilliant," she agreed regarding the chicken. "though should we really be drinking?"

"I do not suppose a little drink would hurt," Adrienne said.

"Wonderful. I will order just a glass of white wine for you each, then." Alisa singled for the waiter to come over to the table. Once there, he would take their orders, and promptly depart.

"So, are you both like moi? Raised into dis business in some branch, den ended up here?"

"Father is something of a name in the profession. Continuing the legacy was an ambition early on," she admitted.
