Going "Home" Again

Sean had never been crazy about planes. Then again he'd never been crazy about heights period. He probably would have driven if it were more practical. Frankly he was glad to finally be on solid ground again. He had to admit he had some butterflies in his stomach after being gone for so long from the institute. Not the X-Man part, that had to be done as far as he was concerned. The part about seeing all the familiar faces he hadn't seen in..sheesh, how many years had it been? Eh, no point in ruminating. He made his way, trying not to get impatient at the disembarking line.

Sean visibly winced a bit.

"Yeah..I had to write "I'm sorry" on a piece of paper."

Bobbi caught the winces and quirked a brow.

"Probably best if I don't pry further right?"

[wild_child]

"...Yeah, just pretend I didn't say any of that, Feathers."

She turned her eye back to Sean. "Fortunately, I'm the forgivin' type."

Yeah..that could have been an awkward conversation. The latter statement made him grin.

"Oh yeah, real forgiving. This coming from the woman who chased me for six hours straight."

[iced_cherub]

"She chased you for six hours? Now I feel out of shape, I don't think I could run for two hours straight. Play soccer that long, sure."

[wild_child]

Rose snickered at that. "Well, it wasn't 6 hours of straight running. Had to go pretty slow following the scent sometimes."

"Yeah, it wasn't always running. There were multiple lull periods. I hid in a lake using a reed to breathe for awhile. I hiding a perfume shop for a time before the owner threw me out for loitering. I even took a cab to just drive me around town."

Bobbi was snickering as she walked with them. "Okay, that's actually pretty smart." She grinned.

"He gets one now and then," Rose agreed. "About every six months or so."

Sean winced in an exaggerated manner, putting his hand on his heart.

"Ouch. Now that's just hurtful, Rose."

[iced_cherub]

Bobbi giggled at that.

"Okay I have a feeling I should go on ahead."

[wild_child]

"You do that, Feathers," Rose said, trying to hide a grin. "Irish and I need ta... discuss this."

Sean did his best to maintain a facade of stoicism at that.

"Nice meeting you, Bobbi."

Yeah, no one was buying that, Sean.

"She's a good kid," Rose said, after Bobbi had headed off. "Had a lot of upsets in her life, but come out smiling."

He nodded. "She seems it." He thought a moment. "She also seems really familiar. Do we know her folks?"

[wild_child]

"Eh... yes and no," Rose said. "Ain't exactly my thing to tell."

[apache_banshee]

"No problem," he assured. He glanced around the place. "Inside's changed too. I'm going to have to memorize the whole layout again."

Rose nodded. "It ain't so bad. Had to put in a lot more rooms, make this place more of a school. Not just family and the odd cast-off anymore."

"So you're all coping all right?" He asked with a hint of concern.

[wild_child]

Rose nodded. "Yeah. It's been a heckuva whirlwind ride since the school went public... but I'm thinkin' it's for the better overall. Besides, I already got some of the younger students who dive for cover when I come through."

He frowned a bit, putting a hand on her shoulder. "You sound like you got the weight of the world on your shoulders."

[wild_child]

Rose frowned just a little. "Maybe. Lots of stuff going on."

She went on. "Found out I was adopted a little while back."

[apache_banshee]

"What?" He didn't know what to expect, but it hadn't been that. "Wow. Do you want to talk about it? I know I haven't been around, but I am now."

[wild_child]

"Shoulda told you sooner," Rose admitted. "Spent a lot of time tryin' to process it."

She let out a breath. "Pops is still Pops. He raised me. He's my dad. Ain't no changin' that.

"But it turns out my biological father's that psychopath Creed."

That actually made his eyes bug out for a second.

"Shiiit," he said with quiet shock. He took a moment before composing himself. "Okay, first off: You have no obligation to tell me anything until you feel up to doing it. Second, you're right. Logan's still your dad regardless of genetic bs. And three..we don't usually get to choose our relatives, but..well..you were lucky enough to get a second pick." He rubbed the back of his head. "Important thing is..you're here." He let out a breath. He really felt like he wasn't good at this sort of thing.
