The Great Summer Road Trip

Sean, Rose, and Dolemeck had frankly become bored during the summer. Dolemeck finished filming the televised intervention of his father, Sean had nothing to do, and the same with Rose. The three got to talking one night, and an idea was hatched. A road trip to see the American west. The old ghost towns in Nevada, the deserts in Arizona, the Grand Canyon, and camping under the stars. It was a wild idea... a wildly brilliant idea.

Dolemeck helped with packing up the car. They had tents, supplies, extra clothes, everything they would need to survive the road trip. All they needed now, was to get on the road.

"I think we can head out!"

"Great," Rose said, as she pulled onto the highway.

Only to be almost immediately cut off by another car. She slammed on the breaks.

"Where'd you learn ta drive, punk?! The Savage Land? I oughta come up there and..."

The sudden stop made Dolemeck's heart jump. He and cars did not have a great relationship. While Rose started to yell at the driver, his eyes gave off a bright green glow as he reached his hand out, and forcibly moved the jerk of a driver to the service side of the road, and then forced the car to a stop. He would curl his hand into a fist, making the engine seize up and break down. All with the powers of his mind.

"Nobody knows about The Savage Land, Rose," Sean was about to say, one of many times he has said it to her in the past, but then saw the car suddenly move. Sean quickly looked back to see Dolemck;s glowing eyes. "Stop it!" He whispered harshly. "We don't need a riot to happen!"

[wild_child]

Rose put some distance between them and the car Dolemeck had moved.

"Ease off, English," she growled. "Don't let my road rage make ya do somethin' stupid."

Stupid-er.

[dolemeck]

He eased off his powers, once the car was safely out of distance from them.

"I... sorry. Someone like that could have seriously hurt someone, or themselves." He spoke in a rather quiet manner.

Sean wasn't as harsh when he spoke next.

"I get it, Dol, but using mutant powers on the public is an easy way to dismantle whatever good will mutants have right now."

[wild_child]

"Relax," Rose assured him. "I got reflexes fer days fer dealing with stuff like this."

Fortunately, traffic smoothed out. "Anybody mind if I put on some music?"

[dolemeck]

"Why would I mind?" He raised an eyebrow at the question.

"You've clearly never heard Rose's taste in music," Sean deadpanned.

"You, shut up," Rose told Sean playfully.

She hit the CD button on the car's dash, and the tones of Johnny Cash filled the car. Rose sang along.

"I woke up, Sunday morning, with no way to hold my head, that didn't hurt..."

Dolemeck remained silent, just closing his eyes and tapping one hand on his leg to the song. It was as though he were trying to figure out the cords in his mind. Perhaps he could try playing it later, once they hit their first campsite.

Sean muttered, but there was no real annoyance in it. Cash wasn't the worst of Rose's tastes, so he could live with it.

"Don't think I can't hear you, Irish," Rose teased. "These ears hear everything."

[dolemeck]

Dolemeck said nothing, he did not have to. Instead, he was focused on trying to learn the song through sound.

"I'm just saying, would it kill you to get into something current?" he teased back.

[wild_child]

"Hey, it's not my fault current stuff sucks," Rose said.

[dolemeck]

"Are you two going to be like this the WHOLE trip?"

[apache_banshee]

"Nah," Sean denied with a shake of his head. "It's usually much worse than this."

[wild_child]

"This is us takin' it easy," Rose said.
