"And the quest for the right internship forms continues!" Caroline declared as the walked along a campus sidewalk.

Angel laughed at that. "Is this the form to request the form to request an internship form?"

"Bureaucracy is scarier than most supervillain stories, gotta say."

[crawler_kid]

"Definitely," Angel agreed. "That and term papers."

[jukeboxartist]

"So what are you working on?" Caroline asked, not really paying attention to figures approaching from a little while away.

[crawler_kid]

"Paper for one of my education classes," Angel said. "Have to write all about whether I think this guy who wrote one of our books is right or not."

[jukeboxartist]

"Always tough. Sometimes they make valid points but they're still wrong as all-get-out. Not too bad at proofreading if you need help with it or anything." She grinned. "Better than Aiden, at least."

A small group of males about their own age continued approaching, and slowed down as they did, staring. It wasn't an honest, thoughtlessly inquisitive stare, either. Caroline could tell. In a mutant clan, you learned the difference. She'd bet Angel'd learned it even faster.

Angel had spent much of the early portion of her life hiding behind an image inducer, even using one into much of her teen years. Forgoing the use of one since she'd decided to go to college had been a big decision, but the instincts had always been there.

"Appreciate it," she said, unconsciously clenching and unclenching her fists.

" 'course." And Caroline'll just stare right back.

"This doesn't concern you," one of them said.

"Well, ain't that cute," she says to Angel. "They think there's a 'this' that concerns them."

Angel pointed ignored them, turning her head toward Caroline. "Downright adorable, ain't it?"

"Look, we just want to talk to the furry chick. We're not...necessarily ... looking to start nothoing."

"Oh, we ain't looking to start nothing, either. For one thing, ~Ah wouldn't sully mah hands on trash like you."

The guys blinked. It wasn't just that the 'normal' chick's Kentucky drawl got even deeper. It was that her voice changed completely. And...were those guitars?

Angel had to admit, Caroline's gifts were pretty darn impressive in their own right.

"Furry?" she asked, faking confusion, before looking down. "Oh, mah God! Ah'm furry! Why didn't anybody tell me?"

"We were worried drawing attention to it might trigger some kind of feral transformation," Caroline deadpans.


And the guys will start slowly, perplexedly backing off.

"Ah hardly think y'all have to worry about that," Angel said, flashing a grin that showed off her fangs.
