Life’s funny sometimes, Topher Summers thought to himself as he sat underneath the tree where he’d first met Jeremiah Bennet. His laptop was open on his lap, and he was playing a simulation game where you created people and controlled their lives. I mean, in the funny-cruel way, not the funny ha-ha way. Here I am, able to take away anyone’s pain - anyone’s negative emotional energy -and make them feel better, but I can’t do that for myself. He watched as simulation Jerry leaned over the kitchen counter to give simulation Chris a plate of lobster thermidor, which he’d thought was appropriate breakfast food for whatever reason. Topher clicked on Chris and chose the option that would have Chris make out with Jerry.
