Everyone, Spider-Man was sure, would be dealing with what happened in Murderworld in their own way. It was hideous, it really was. On some level, he knew that he should have been trying to figure a way out of the thing without the girl’s sacrifice even being an option. At the same time, though, he realize that there always had to be one person in the group who was willing or able to do something the others weren’t. Sure, he was no Wolverine (perhaps thankfully) but he was also a spider, and spiders were important in any ecosystem. Without them, some bugs would run rampant. Without them, things wouldn’t get caught in a web and blocked from doing harm. Spiders saved those that needed saving…but they also did away with the things that didn’t need to exist.

Besides. I want to join SHIELD one day. They have their questionable goings on as well. You have to be able to live in the grey, webby area. I mean, not everyone can have that true blue Captain American personality, right?

He loosed himself from the wind current he was riding and landed on the Baxter Building, surveying the city underneath him. Besides, she survived. And it’s not our fault she landed in the position she was in. That’s a far bigger game than us.

He sighed, though. More and more, he was realizing that super heroics weren’t just about the wit and the quick fighting. There was more to it, and it was darker than he’d realized. He’d always been aware of that, of course, but he’d never really faced it head on until now.

Guess it really is time to embrace the Man part of my codename.

The sound of spotlights coming on could be heard, and the darkness that had embraced the people within the room had disappeared. Instead, they were on what looked like an elaborate stage... something out of a reality TV show like the Bachelor. As if things could not get stranger, a large, 65" LED TV came to life, showing a young woman in a white jacket, green shirt, and a horrible yellow and orange polka dot tie.

"Ah! Our lovely contestants have woken up! Welcome, welcome one and all to Murderworld 2012!" The neuro-implants in the sides of her eyes began to glow a bright green in color, and her face had a large smile upon it. "These contestants were carefully selected to take part in the most fun, and dangerous version of Murderworld yet! Winners get to live, if we have any winners, that is. And the losers? Well, they get to die horribly painful and elaborate deaths!"

It had been a nice, quiet weekday afternoon in New York. For once, it actually seemed as though there wasn't going to be any kind of trouble afoot.

That would have been nice, had it been true.

It happened suddenly, as things of this sort tended to happen. Out of seemingly nowhere, it appeared in the middle of Chinatown. A large, hulking, two-dimensional being stomping around.

And it only yelled one thing as it started to wreak havoc.

"DESTROY ALL COMBATANTS!"
Motorcycle's in the parking lot
Revving their engines and it just won't stop
Matches the noise screaming in my head
Houston, I think we got a problem
Mira was walking through the Central Park Zoo, there was a crowd of school kids running between the monkey cage and the elephants that caused her to dance back a few steps to avoid getting bowled over by the third graders. Sipping at the hot chocolate she had bought she headed for the tiger exhibit.

There were panicked screams from behind her, where she had passed the kids. Turning she saw several running her way. Mira thought a moment trying to remember the layout of the zoo from the map she had. Pointing she hissed reptile house to the kids as she headed the way they had come from, maybe she'd be able to figure out what was going on. No doubt someone was already texting and or calling the police right? The kids had been in uniforms, one of the ritzy schools in the city, though she hadn't been in town long enough to figure out which one.

The device on her wrist beeped, warning her someone was messing with the weapon. Mira pulled herself against a decorative wall. Did they find me already? Usually I get at least a day before the government finds me. Taking a deep breath she stepped back into the path her eyes scouting for anything she could use as a weapon as she headed for the monkey cage. It was probably stupid of her, but if the kids got hurt because she was there she'd never forgive herself.

If there was one thing that Jesse Hunt loved more than winter break, it was spring break. A week off from classes, a week to do whatever he wanted to do, without stressing about a paper or a test or some horrible lab experiment gone awry that inevitably leads to an on campus confrontation between Spider-Man and the monster of the week. Unlike winter break, here, he wasn't worried about new professors or new classes or what new evil the New Year's was going to bring. No, this was an almost entirely care-free break.

With the exception of the small gathering of badly costumed, decidedly un-super-villains he'd just rounded up and left for the police to find, of course.

While most of Jesse's classmates had headed to sunnier, sandier pastures for the week, Jesse had stayed behind to work on some other things - namely the new Longxu hooks he'd created, along with the help of his parents. Unlike previous Spiders, Jesse didn't have or employ webbing of any sort, and he'd realized that he had a lack of something that he could use for moments where there wasn't an air current strong enough to carry him or something.

Currently, he was trying his best to learn how to swing with them, in case his powers ever gave out. The spider-shaped hooks that were attached to the ends of the retractable, carbonadium-alloy coils easily attached to almost anything without causing too deep a puncture or anything. It was strong and resistant, and Jesse was willing to bet that it had cost his parents a pretty penny to get him this latest addition to his arsenal. Now he simply needed to prove his decision to get them right.

Which meant concentrating and not swinging smack into a plate glass window.

Seriously? Gliding on air currents was easier.
It had been one of those days for Sarah. Just one of those kind of days where everything that could go wrong, did. First, her partner on her history project decided that she wasn't going to do her part, leaving Sarah to do all of the work. Then, her car got a flat tire, and it took forever for the AAA guy to show up to tow it for her. Then, while she was walking back to her family's apartment, she got absolutely soaked when some jerk drove straight through a puddle, not bothering to slow down. New Yorkers.

And now, some asshole decided it would be fun to attempt to mug her. And she was without her shield. Not that she always needed the shield...but it did come in handy when someone was holding a gun to her face, and she possibly had to deflect bullets.

"Purse, cellphone, jewelery," the thug said, pointing the gun at Sarah.

She heaved a sigh. "I really don't have time for this."

Two other thugs stepped into the alley Sarah had been pulled into, one carry a crowbar, the other a switchblade.

"I'd give what he asked for, girly."

Sarah sighed again, calculating in her head how quickly she could take out the thugs.

Yup. She was so having a bubblebath after this.
Vesper was out on his nightly patrol. His wings were open, and he was soaring between tall buildings toward the Bronx. His nightly patrols were now incessantly regular now. Not the where, just that he did them. The heiress he had been dating had gotten too busy with college and running the family business; something had to give. Vesper had been surprised the relationship had lasted as long as it did. Also, that he had avoided telling her his secret identity.

So, he was slightly distracted for a moment as he flew through the New York skyline. Until his keen ears picked up the sound of a gunshot. He quickly wheeled around and headed in that direction. Until he was near where he thought it was, and the car backfired again. He grumbled to himself and climbed higher in the sky.

Again, Vesper searched for more crime to stop as he soared. His heightened sense of hearing searching about as he continued toward the Bronx.
