Date Night (Brianna)

There were certain things about going on a date with your roommate that were a little odd. The first thing was that if you planned to surprise your date with anything, it really had to be stashed with a third party, since it was hard to smuggle something like flowers into one's room without one's roommate noticing. The other thing was that Kayla had found herself "borrowing" the floor washroom to get ready, not that there was a lot to do, really- she usually wore only a little makeup and a burgerplace and then dancing at a coffeehouse didn't really call for fancy dress- though she'd dug her best pair of dark jeans from storage and actually bought herself a new top.

No sir, no ratty fandom or band T-shirts for Miss LeBeau. She'd even got a couple of pieces of jewelry, little stud earrings and a birthstone pendant she'd kept from earlier days. She looked fondly at her favorite pair of boots, but it was pretty warm- sandal weather. It felt a little odd to be fussing over herself. And then it came into her mind again that she had a date. Nobody had ever really asked her on a proper date before. She'd kinda sorta had a boyfriend once, but it wasn't really much worth remembering. This was different. There'd be ... okay, not probably candlelight at a burger place, but still, there'd be door opening and dancing and oh god maybe even a goodnight kiss. Hopefully.

And then, they'd go to bed. Ten feet from each other. Which was going to get very interesting very fast if things went well. And that just released a ton of butterflies.

Having finished fussing over herself like she was some kind of girl getting ready for a date or something, she took flowers in her hand and walked downstairs to where they'd agreed they'd meet before walking over to AwesomeBurger for dinner. She was a few minutes early, so she bounced on the balls of her feet slightly, casting a glance upstairs every once in awhile, waiting for Brianna to come down.

Brianna stroked Kayla's hand for a moment before she started in on her food. Kayla believed everything would be okay so Brianna chose to believe the same. That was all that they could do and Brianna needed good news.

Brianna restrained herself from inhaling her cheeseburger but she'd been so nervous about tonight that she'd eaten only sparingly.

Still, she finished her food pretty quickly and sipped her shake slowly as she watched Kayla eat...which was somewhat entrancing. If Kayla looked at her, Brianna would find another place in the room to look though she did so with a grin on her face. She was starting to relax a bit more.

"How about that dancing? Or...do you want to do something else?"

"Don't ask me what I have in mind. Might be more than you can handle." Brianna teased.

She stood up from her chair and extended an arm to Kayla.

"Yes, I'd love to dance with you. Let's pay and get out of here."

Brianna liked this plan. She followed Kayla to the dance floor without question, moving to the music as she did so. The crowd was pretty thick already so Brianna moved in closer to Kayla so they wouldn't get separated.

Brianna's hips moved with fluid grace as though dancing were as natural to her as walking or breathing. She pulled as close to Kayla as she dared and danced, drawing an envious look from a few of the guys there who probably would have liked to be a part of their circle.

"This was a wonderful idea. You should date-plan more often." Brianna grinned.

Brianna was happy to be near Kayla like this and her breath caught as Kayla held her. She looked into Kayla's eyes and smiled.

"I wasn't a fan of slow dancing until just now. Must be the company." Brianna told her.

"A girl could get used to this..." she said quietly.

Brianna leaned into the kiss, capturing Kayla's lips with her own. She sighed contentedly, happy just to enjoy this time with her best friend, her roommate and, now, her...what? Things were going well tonight but where did they go from here?

Brianna's brain was working on overtime, so when the speaker across the room suddenly sputtered and then burned out with a puff of black smoke coming the back, there was some consternation from the other people in the cafe.

Brianna, on the other hand, couldn't be bothered to notice.

"Hey...look at that girl's clothes. They're...they're glowing!" shoulder a male patron.

"Oh gross! Not only are they deviants but one of them is a mutie!" yelled a female patron.

Brianna smiled. "Yeah, I'm good. I didn't think anyone would stick up for us but remind me to come here and talk to Coffeeshop Bob as often as I can." she said.

She took Kayla's hand in hers and watched as the owner went off on the patrons. As much as Brianna wanted to stay and watch it, she didn't want anyone to pick up on her being a mutant again.

"Hey...do you want to go home?" she whispered to Kayla.

Brianna lead Kayla out of the coffeeshop quickly and down the street, enjoying the evening air. This was nice and Brianna felt like she was having a good time for the first time in awhile.

"You're a great dancer. We'll do this again soon but maybe we can sneak into a club next time? Once I can make sure I don't blow up the speakers because my girlfriend is giving me the eyes." Brianna said.

Blink.

Did I just call her my--? Oh bloody hell.

"Not to say that you're my girlfriend because we haven't even talked about that. We're doing the slow thing. Forget I said anything." Brianna said, suddenly trying to babble her way backward from that leap of logic.
