Date Night (Brianna)
There were certain things about going on a date with your roommate that were a little odd. The first thing was that if you planned to surprise your date with anything, it really had to be stashed with a third party, since it was hard to smuggle something like flowers into one's room without one's roommate noticing. The other thing was that Kayla had found herself "borrowing" the floor washroom to get ready, not that there was a lot to do, really- she usually wore only a little makeup and a burgerplace and then dancing at a coffeehouse didn't really call for fancy dress- though she'd dug her best pair of dark jeans from storage and actually bought herself a new top.
No sir, no ratty fandom or band T-shirts for Miss LeBeau. She'd even got a couple of pieces of jewelry, little stud earrings and a birthstone pendant she'd kept from earlier days. She looked fondly at her favorite pair of boots, but it was pretty warm- sandal weather. It felt a little odd to be fussing over herself. And then it came into her mind again that she had a date. Nobody had ever really asked her on a proper date before. She'd kinda sorta had a boyfriend once, but it wasn't really much worth remembering. This was different. There'd be ... okay, not probably candlelight at a burger place, but still, there'd be door opening and dancing and oh god maybe even a goodnight kiss. Hopefully.
And then, they'd go to bed. Ten feet from each other. Which was going to get very interesting very fast if things went well. And that just released a ton of butterflies.
Having finished fussing over herself like she was some kind of girl getting ready for a date or something, she took flowers in her hand and walked downstairs to where they'd agreed they'd meet before walking over to AwesomeBurger for dinner. She was a few minutes early, so she bounced on the balls of her feet slightly, casting a glance upstairs every once in awhile, waiting for Brianna to come down.

On Brianna's last real date, two years ago, her date led her to a dark alley and tried to kill her with help from several of his mutant-hating friends. Her powers had gone haywire and she'd left the son-of-a-bitch in a vegetative state along with seriously injuring a few of his friends. The thoughts of that night filled Brianna's mind until the lights flicked and sputtered. It was then that the young Englishwoman realized what was happening and reminded herself to calm down.
Dr. McCoy's news yesterday was also unnerving. Due to her injury, her powers were changing. She was still absorbing kinetic energy but she could no longer focus it the way she used to. During some light training, she'd blasted a hole through a nearby door. No one was hurt but Brianna was unnerved. Until they could figure out what was going on, Dr. McCoy suggested that she wear a containment suit that would help her measure her power levels.
She zipped up the skin-tight bodysuit and then put on her favorite pair of black skinny jeans and a white shirt as she readthe latest New York tabloid. A picture of Grace Danvers and her new boyfriend was the cover page and Brianna smiled. She wished she looked as good as Grace did in a pair of skinny jeans but she pushed the thought aside.
Kayla said yes. I'm going on a date with Kayla. I hope she likes what I'm wearing. I've still got to do my make-up. And I have to find shoes...
Brianna came down the stairs a couple of minutes after their agreed meeting time, flowers in hand, having found all of her things and changing clothes three times before going back to her original black skinny jeans and a blue top instead. Brianna hoped things went well but if they did...what did that mean for them? They lived in the same room. They slept a few feet from each other. They might go out tonight and realize that it was better to stay friends but as Brianna saw Kayla, her stomach did a somersault and she realized how badly she wanted this to go better than "well".
"Hey, you." Brianna said, smiling at Kayla. "You look great..."
And then she saw the flowers.
"Are those for me?" she asked, handing Kayla the carnations she'd hidden with Rose to keep Kayla from seeing them.
