A Story Begins (Intro Post, Open to Mansion Folk)

When his mother told him that she was sending him somewhere to train to be a hero, Richard had thought that she was pulling his leg. Of course, he realized that she was dead serious when he was put on a plane and took a cab to a large mansion where some former associates of hers lived. Okay, she might have called them something else, but Richard was choosing to visualize them as old friends as opposed to something negative. Either way, they were going to be his friends, which was all that really mattered to him.

Once he got all of his stuff up to the door, Richard opened the door and poked his head through. "Hello! Anyone there," he called out as he started to drag his stuff through the door. Hopefully, someone would show up to tell him where he could place his things for the time being.

"Eh, could be worse," Rose said. "One of my friends is datin' Exodus's kid."

"Exodus's son goes here?" Perhaps he wasn't the only child of a former bad guy to enroll at Xavier's, which meant that the Headmaster was right about no one holding any grudges because of the wrongs of his mother.

She shook her head. "Definitely not," Rose said. "But he's datin' one of my friends here anyway."

"But if it helps ya, my best friend's Emma Frost's daughter."

"It helps a little."

Okay, so it might have been a little too much to hope for more Acolyte children at the school, but at least everyone was friendly.

"So do students go on missions or is it all training exercises?"

"Depends," Rose said. "I'm field certified, and so're a few of the others, but not everybody. Lotta trainin' and tests an' stuff before they let ya do that."

"So it seems school will always be my main concern, huh?" Well, he guessed that in order to do anything worthwhile one must learn to beat one's own weaknesses.

Rose shrugged. "Depends, I reckon. Now that we're gettin' a lot more eyes on us, I dunno if they're even gonna let the rest of us out t' play."

"Well that would be rather disappointing. I was kind of hoping to get a chance to help some people," responded Richard.

Rose smirked just a little. "Oh, there'll still be sneakin' out to raise heck. I guarantee it."

"Well let me know when that happens. I'll definitely need to get out and stretch my legs a little bit," said Richard with a smile.

"Thanks," said Richard with a tentative smile. "But I doubt that I will be of much use against robots of any size."

"Yeah, I've been trying to think of one, but it hasn't been easy." It would have been easier if his mother had just had one that he could have inherited like her powers, but that was a no go. "So what is yours?"

Rose laughed. He'd probably see the darker side of her soon enough. Lucky enough Feathers hadn't.

"Not that many," she said. "Mostly just the kids of the teachers and X-Men. Lots of folks gone home for the summer."

Rose nodded. "Course, about half of 'em are related to me. Two brothers and a sister 'round here somewhere."

"Wow," said Richard, "All of your siblings have powers?" That must have made raising them pretty interesting.

"Well, two out of the three so far," Rose said. "Dork One and Dork Two got powers, but Em's too young fer 'em yet."

"So there is a pack of Wild Children running around this place," asked Richard. "How interesting."

Rose laughed. "Dunno how wild they are. That's mostly me. Dork 1's gotten all responsible, and Dork 2's way nicer than me."
