I'm Setting Booty Traps.
In the desert outside of Sedona, Arizona a large, metallic structure appeared after an evening of strange lights swooping and whirling around in the skies. A couple locals went into the one story structure to check it out. Their truck was still sitting outside of the strange building a day later. The police were called in. The local sheriff didn't trust the federal government, but he knew superheroes could probably handle whatever this thing was.
He put in a call to the Future Foundation. Then he sat back and waited. Also, he kept an eye on making sure no one else did something dumb like go into that thing like Larry and Daryl.

When the ground rumbled under his tired feet, he tried to yank his arm out of Jacob's grasp. He glanced back at the building of death they had just gotten out of.
"Mone defoncer," he muttered to himself. "Everyone get behind the police cordon! Ryan, be ready to back up my shields!"
The Atlantean kept moving toward the cordon. He didn't know how much more he could stretch his shield strength, but he was going to try to keep this contained. From a safer distance.

He shot a worried look to his
teammatesfriends and brother."That could've been us," he said softly.
Damn, that was close.

She spun and faced Griffin. "And if I ever hear you pull that "I'm going last" thing again..."

He frowned a little, watching the building shake. His fists clenched and he looked down at his enormous, rocky fingers. No good for this sort of thing... when finicky little buttons and circuits needed to be manipulated. Even if he'd known what to do, he couldn't have pulled it off.

"Ryan, mine are failing," Remi shouted over his shoulder with a small edge of panic creeping in. "Jacob, cover-"
The shield breached right in front of Remi. He was sent flying over the cordon.

"Someone catch him!"

He stepped over to the redhead and put his rocky bulk between her and the explosion, arms carefully around her. Jacob trusted his brother's shields, but he wasn't sure what their limit was. Hopefully they wouldn't have to find out.

She closed her eyes and hoped that when she opened them Jacob wouldn't be pebbles and Remi wouldn't be an Atlantean smear.

Instead, Remi just laid there blinking at the sky.

Someone should tell Griffin his lab coat is on fire. He's in shock so he doesn't really notice right away.

"Easy there, smokey."

"Jacob," he managed. "Take over."
There were probably local constables to get things squared away with. Someone who could probably think straight and not continually say 'I hate the desert' would probably be needed. Also, it would be Jacob's call when the team would wrap it up and head back to base.

"Well... guess we did all right," she said. "Not dead, anyway."
