Going "Home" Again

Sean had never been crazy about planes. Then again he'd never been crazy about heights period. He probably would have driven if it were more practical. Frankly he was glad to finally be on solid ground again. He had to admit he had some butterflies in his stomach after being gone for so long from the institute. Not the X-Man part, that had to be done as far as he was concerned. The part about seeing all the familiar faces he hadn't seen in..sheesh, how many years had it been? Eh, no point in ruminating. He made his way, trying not to get impatient at the disembarking line.

"Uh-huh," Rose teased. "You keep tellin' yourself that."

She climbed into the drivers' seat.

He grumbles half-heartingly as he puts his suitcase in the back before moving up to the passenger side.

It wasn't long before they were on the open road, Rose going just slightly faster than the speed limit.

"Don't get me wrong," Rose said, "bein' hated and feared a little bit less is a good thing. But we've been down this road before. Things get a little better... and then somethin' happens and it gets worse again."

"Promise not to laugh, but..I came because of a vision-quest," he admitted.

There was slight eyebrow arching.

"My roommates a clone, our headmistress is part cosmic firebird, and we have a portal to a demon dimension in our backyard, and that's where you think I'm gonna draw the line?"

Her lips drew back in a smile. "Though you don't exactly seem like the vision-ing type. Unless it involves women."

"True enough," he conceded. "Normally I'm not, but lately I'd been feeling uneasy and I wasn't sure why. Dad sent me a friend of his, kind of an expert on Apache culture. He recommended I go on one. Considering that nothing else was working, I did." He sat back and thought back. "It worked. I saw..violence..destruction..but I couldn't make out specifics. I just feel like..something..is going to happen. I felt I had to come back."

Rose frowned again. "Well... that ain't good."

"...You're not being possessed by a future version of yourself, are you? Because it's been done."

[apache_banshee]

"If I am they haven't let on," he said seriously. "Hoping it was just desert heat, but..I felt I had to come back."

She nodded. "Well, ya been missed, Irish. It's... slightly harder to get into trouble without ya."

Neither of them were good when it came to moments of genuine affection.

"I missed you-all of you," he quickly amended, "but..wasn't the same without you around either."

Words were not Rose's strong suit in general.

A car suddenly cut them off and she slammed on the breaks. "Oh fer... Where'd ya learn ta drive, pal?! The Savage Land?!"

The moment officially ended, Sean allowed himself to chuckle a bit at Rose's choice of words.

"Somehow I imagine the driving would be much worse. Still I won't argue about them bringing their fashion sense over here."

Rose snickered at that. "You would, Irish," she teased. "Still, if yer volunteering to go around in a loincloth..."

"You know if I could get away with it I would," he said with a smirk, not kidding.

[wild_child]

"I say ya do it anyway," she told him.

She turned off a street. "Almost there."

"Touche."

He nods. "Starting to recognize the area again."

[wild_child]

"Get ready not to when we get to the school. They did a heckuva job remodeling it."

Rose turned off another road, up the long and winding way to the school, soon coming upon the gates.

Sure enough when Sean caught sight of the school it was barely recognizable from what he remembered.

"Holy..well you weren't kidding. I mean there's some old stuff left, but it almost looks like a completely different place."

"Yeah, well, lots more students these days," Rose said.

"On the other hand, lots mores places to hide when you do something dumb and I have to chase you."

"I can imagine."

He gave a dismissive sound at her latter statement. "Like it would last that long before you found every spot. Last time I had to actually hide in town>"

Rose chuckled as she pulled into the garage. "That was a fun day. You almost lost me with all those cologne samples."

"Would have worked longer if the manager hadn't thrown me out for "loitering"," he grumbled in reply.

[wild_child]

"Them's the breaks in "Catch the Hunk"," Rose said, as she put the car into park in one of the empty spaces.

"How ever will I cope?" He deadpanned.

"Oh, I can recommend a way or two..."
