A Story Begins (Intro Post, Open to Mansion Folk)

When his mother told him that she was sending him somewhere to train to be a hero, Richard had thought that she was pulling his leg. Of course, he realized that she was dead serious when he was put on a plane and took a cab to a large mansion where some former associates of hers lived. Okay, she might have called them something else, but Richard was choosing to visualize them as old friends as opposed to something negative. Either way, they were going to be his friends, which was all that really mattered to him.

Once he got all of his stuff up to the door, Richard opened the door and poked his head through. "Hello! Anyone there," he called out as he started to drag his stuff through the door. Hopefully, someone would show up to tell him where he could place his things for the time being.

"I guess you could call me that," responded Richard. Of course, it reminded him of all those movies where the new guy got hazed.

Pushing that type of thought out of his mind, he decided that it would be best to get things going. "We should probably get my things before you show me to my room."

"Yeah, well, welcome to Xaiver's, hope ya survive the experience," she said.

She nodded. "Yeah, let's grab 'em."

"Okay then," he said as he left the office and headed toward the closet that he had stored them in.

"So how long have you been here, Rose?"

"All m' life," Rose said. "Pops is one of the teachers here."

"Well, that must make it fun when report cards come out." Richard knew that if his mother were a teacher then he would never hear the end of a bad grade.

That got a laugh out of Rose. "Long as we did our best... and came clean when we weren't," Rose said, "Pops weren't too bad about it. Learned more from him than any of the other teachers anyway."

"So what class does your dad teach exactly," he said as he rounded the corner to where the closet that his stuff was in was.

"Gym, wilderness survival, combat, occasionally guest lectures for history when it covers periods he was present for. That kinda thing."

"Wow, sounds like he does quite a bit of teaching." Opening the closet, a thought occurred to Richard as he reached for his bags. "Wait a minute. What do you mean periods he was present for?"

Another laugh. "Pops is older than dirt," Rose said. "He goes back a ways."

[eidolon34]

"I see." He didn't actually see, but he figured he should take her word for it.

Pulling out all of his bags, Richard turned to look at Rose. "So where to?"

Rose grabbed one of the bags from him, because, manners.

"This way," she said, as she started walking. "Don't get too comfortable, though. They're buildin' new dorms fer everybody."

Picking up the rest of his bags, Richard proceeded to follow her to his temporary room. "So why are they building new dorms for? Something happened to the old ones?"

"Nah," Rose said, as she lead the way. "Though that'll probably happen at some point."

She went on. "We're expectin' way more students in the fall. Kinda got dropped on the public radar a little more a little while back."

"I guess that means that things will become very crazy around here with all of these new students." He was referring to the fact that so many different powers that would be housed under one roof. "So what is it that you can do, Rose?"

"It's always crazy 'round here," Rose said. "Me? Little of this, little of that. Healin' factor, super-senses, claws, that kinda thing."

Richard kind of figured that it might be, but it was nice to have his assumptions verified. "Wow, that is an impressive set of powers. You get all of that from your dad?"

"Pretty much," Rose said. "Pops' claws are different than mine, but the rest is pretty much th' same."

She looked back over her shoulder. "And what do you do?"

"Oh, I just make things turn into mist and then move it around," Richard said. "Nothing too special."

Her eyes narrowed slightly. "Ya get that from one of yer parents, or ya a first gen mutant...?"

[eidolon34]

"I got it from my mother, which made it a lot easier to learn how to deal with my power." Of course, it also meant that she could win most arguments by saying that she had more experience at using said power, but what was one going to do.

A nod, mostly confirming something to herself. "Amelia Voight," Rose said. "...Well, probably one of the less nuts people who followed Magneto."

[eidolon34]

"Yeah. Still have some trouble seeing my mom as being a former bad guy," stated Richard. "Was sort of like a Twilight Zone moment when she told me."

[wild_child]

"Eh, could be worse," Rose said. "One of my friends is datin' Exodus's kid."

[eidolon34]

"Exodus's son goes here?" Perhaps he wasn't the only child of a former bad guy to enroll at Xavier's, which meant that the Headmaster was right about no one holding any grudges because of the wrongs of his mother.
