Waking Up (Future Foundation)
Bobby woke up and met Mary first.
He named her "Skrull-Babe Funtimes" in his head, the easier to remember her by. Skrulls were decent to be around and, most of the time, they were honest. If they didn't like you, they didn't like you. Unlike the Kree, they didn't pretend to be civilized while acting like jerks.
"So, Mary...I think I remember your friends from the pier. At least I remember a couple of them. I was pretty hurt but...did I actually see a big orange rock person?" he asked her.
no subject
She led him through the halls of the Pier, heading towards the hangar. "Doctor Power was heading up working on your ship last I knew," she said. "She's got the most experience with that kind of thing."

Maybe he was getting coffee? Maybe that might keep him awake...
... and not seeing people in the hallway. He rubbed his eyes. Nope. The walking green lizard booger was definitely Mary. With saved stranger accompaniment.

He dialed the number and waited.
"Hey, mom. It's me." Bobby said sheepishly. "I just wanted to let you know I'm alive and--"
"Robert. Carmen. Quill." Kitty said, her voice eerily calm. "I'm glad you're alive. Because when I find you, I'm going to kill you myself. Where are you? I know you're on Earth because you're calling from a New York number."
"Mom, there's no need to freak out. I met up with some friends and I'll call you as soon as I can come out...to visit." Bobby said, not wanting to give away the school's location. He didn't know that the school was public knowledge now.
"You were being shot at near Saturn. You are now on Earth. Where is your ship?" she asked.
"Bzzt! Mom! Can you hear me? The connection is getting back. Bzzt!"
"Bobby, don't you dare hang up on me!"
Bobby pressed the END button and handed the phone back to Mary.
"Hey, isn't that one of the guys that was with you?" he asked, nodding to Remy.
Mom was going to kill him. He should probably enjoy the last few hours of his life.

Her attention was successfully averted. She waved to Remi. "Remi! He's awake! Can I keep him!"
no subject
"Bonzour. I'm Remi deNamor," he introduced as he came to a stop. He looked at Mary, looked at Bobby, and then looked back at Mary. "No longer into the thin, geeky scientist-types?"
no subject
He saw Remy and offered a nod.
"Nice to meet you, Remi. I'm Robert Quill, but call me Bobby. Thank you all for the save back there. The Badoon are bad news most days but it's a good thing they didn't catch me."
"I need to know where the rest of my things are because there's a valuable item I need to get off this planet." he said.
no subject
"...Where did we put those?"
no subject
He glanced at Mary. "No, not everyone."
Certainly not Remi.
no subject
He noted Remi's comments about Mary's...significant other? He wisely remained quiet to hear more on the matter.

He frowned slightly. "I don't quite remember your things. Lack of sleep might have something to do with it. If here, your gear is probably locked down in a storage locker... somewhere."
no subject
"It's just a Cosmic Cube. I just need to make sure that the Kree and Badoon don't get it and do something like, you know, wipe out the Spartoi Empire with it." Bobby said.
no subject
Mary stopped. "Wait. That's worse."
Another pause. "Wait. You have a cosmic cube and you're not already emperor of the universe with a harem full of intergalactic beauties? That's some willpower you've got there."
no subject
"...huh?"
no subject
"What's going on dudes?"
no subject
But then Remy here could pick it up and ask for a galaxy made of chocolate chip ice-cream and my vision of the universe would cease to exist." Bobby said.
"Besides, being emperor of the universe would suck. Imagine all of the work you'd have to do!" Bobby said.
Alexa introduced herself and Bobby almost said hello...until he noticed the baby.
"Uh, guys. This lady has a baby strapped to her back." he said, looking a little alarmed.
no subject
She mentally backed up a couple spaces though. "...And you thought bringing it to Earth was a good idea?"
no subject
He quirked an eyebrow at the surprise. "She has our daughter strapped to her back, yes. Not an uncommon sight for mothers around here."
He looked to his Alexa. "Bonzour, mo bizou. Apparently, we have a cosmos-altering thingie in the Pier. Somewhere."
no subject
He suppressed a shudder.
"Yeah, my dad thought bringing it here was better than letting the Kree-Badoon alliance get their hands on it. If they did, they'd just think the Spartax Empire right out of existence." he said.
"And I'm not keen on my dad dying because some jerk-ass Kree thought it would be chuckle-worthy." he said.
"But I was actually going to take it and hide it somewhere else. I just happened to get jumped around Saturn and I had to make a pit stop here."

This woman wore her baby on her back. Bobby found that odd and terrifying.
"Dads are kind of important. So are moms. I'm pretty sure mine is going to kill me the next time I call her. Is there a standard Earth way to apologize to your mother? Like flowers and candy? Or...something?" he asked.
no subject
"Alexa would be the resident expert to answer that question." Resident meaning in that hallway at the moment. "She is a mother."

Kitty Pryde didn't like being hung up on, especially when she was worried.
"You guys are right. I'll call her and face the music." he said.
"In the meantime, I was telling Mary that you guys have a pretty cool set up here. Have you all been working together long?" he asked. He assumed that Remi and Alexa had been, at least, because baby.
no subject
"I've been leading the Imaginauts for around two years." He was not even going to mention that he and Alexa had been going out for what could be measured in months before the big whoops.

"I'm mostly here for the coffee and to science stuff. Didn't want to work for my dad."
