Waking Up (Future Foundation)

Bobby woke up and met Mary first.

He named her "Skrull-Babe Funtimes" in his head, the easier to remember her by. Skrulls were decent to be around and, most of the time, they were honest. If they didn't like you, they didn't like you. Unlike the Kree, they didn't pretend to be civilized while acting like jerks.

"So, Mary...I think I remember your friends from the pier. At least I remember a couple of them. I was pretty hurt but...did I actually see a big orange rock person?" he asked her.

Mary grinned. "Of course she does," she said. "Easier than carrying him in her arms."

She mentally backed up a couple spaces though. "...And you thought bringing it to Earth was a good idea?"

Remi crossed his arms in front of his chest. Like he would do chocolate chip ice cream. He was more of a rocky road kind of Atlantean.

He quirked an eyebrow at the surprise. "She has our daughter strapped to her back, yes. Not an uncommon sight for mothers around here."

He looked to his Alexa. "Bonzour, mo bizou. Apparently, we have a cosmos-altering thingie in the Pier. Somewhere."

"Oh. That's a thing here, then?" he asked, a little unnerved. He'd seen a creature on Iagos once that kept children in a cage on its back...after kidnapping them from their families.

He suppressed a shudder.

"Yeah, my dad thought bringing it here was better than letting the Kree-Badoon alliance get their hands on it. If they did, they'd just think the Spartax Empire right out of existence." he said.

"And I'm not keen on my dad dying because some jerk-ass Kree thought it would be chuckle-worthy." he said.

"But I was actually going to take it and hide it somewhere else. I just happened to get jumped around Saturn and I had to make a pit stop here."

"Well, like I said, Doctor Power is supervising the salvage. If anything's turned up, she'd be the one to ask."

"Can I play with the cosmos-altering thingie? It sounds fun and interesting and we don't have too many of those around here. And I won't kill your dad. I'm pretty good at not killing dads. Tony's still alive, after all."

"Um, we can't play with a Cosmic Cube. It's not a toy. In fact, it would be a really bad idea to play with it." Bobby said, his nervousness in Alexa's presence suddenly increasing.

This woman wore her baby on her back. Bobby found that odd and terrifying.

"Dads are kind of important. So are moms. I'm pretty sure mine is going to kill me the next time I call her. Is there a standard Earth way to apologize to your mother? Like flowers and candy? Or...something?" he asked.

Remi glanced between Bobby and Alexa. He managed to keep a smirk off his face.

"Alexa would be the resident expert to answer that question." Resident meaning in that hallway at the moment. "She is a mother."

Mary shrugged. "Don't look at me. My mom's not from here."

"I suggest calling your mom, begging for mercy, and offering to buy her lunch. And then not crying too much when she still kicks your ass."

Bobby took in everyone's words. Alexa suggested that Mom might still be mad even if he apologized and Bobby figured she might be right. He'd hung up on her twice, after all.

Kitty Pryde didn't like being hung up on, especially when she was worried.

"You guys are right. I'll call her and face the music." he said.

"In the meantime, I was telling Mary that you guys have a pretty cool set up here. Have you all been working together long?" he asked. He assumed that Remi and Alexa had been, at least, because baby.

"I'm only been in this reality for a few years," Remi mused as he tried to figure out how long the team had been running under his lead. He'd dropped into the big reservoir in Central Park, been on the Avengers for a little bit, and then came over to the Future Foundation to lead the field team.

"I've been leading the Imaginauts for around two years." He was not even going to mention that he and Alexa had been going out for what could be measured in months before the big whoops.

"The organization's been around a little longer than that," Mary added. "My Aunt and Uncle set it up to continue their ideals and ideas. But it was mostly just a think-tank before then."

"I don't even know this dude's middle name," Alexa gestured to Remi. She wasn't ashamed of their short relationship. When you know, you know and Guin was proof that they knew.

"I'm mostly here for the coffee and to science stuff. Didn't want to work for my dad."
