Adrienne returned to the apartment she shared with Millicent. The past six months had been good for them, filled with meaningful and well-paying work, and a few jobs that had been... less pleasant, but still paid a lot of cash.
And even in a city this big, with this many super-heroes, they'd managed to avoid attracting any of them. Though they had both briefly stepped out during that mess with all the robots. One did look after one's home, after all.
"How did your meeting with the client go?" she asked.
Keeping an ear open to the goings-on of the superhero community was a must for the modern mercenary. Considering the recent changing of the guard, so to speak, job offers were starting to come from different sources.
"Cordial enough," Millicent replied as she did a series of push-ups. "He wants us to steal something from some rich bloke with a lot of security. Wouldn't tell me much else unless we accept the contract."
Alisa had managed to remain in contact with Millicent since their last dinner together. So far, the two appeared to still be on friendly terms (with some flirting from Alisa when she enables some of her emotions at times). As Alistaire had suddenly returned from who knows where, she figured now would be a good time to check in on her old friend.
"Milli? Are you dere?" She asked once the phone was picked up.
"Are you busy, Chere?" Her voice sounded flat, a tell for Milli that she literally had turned off her emotions. "I was wonderin' if you would like to spar. It has been awhile..."
"Frankly? It worries me when you call and turn your emotions off," Millicent replied plainly. "However as it's not my business I will let it go. As for the sparring, I'm available for that."
Even without meaning to, it always felt like Milli could pull nearly any bit of information from Alisa. All without trying very hard.
"Turning dem back on will just make me hurt. Wit Reiko an' Alistaire now married, an' Alistaire having finally returned, I feel fragile. I've turned my emotions off for de time bein' , so I don' cry an' sound like a gal wit' a broken heart." She frowned over the phone.
"But oui, I will meet you at your place for de spar. You tend to 'ave better equipment den where I am stayin' currently."
It did not take Alisa long to show up. And when she did, she was in that familiar black and red leather outfit she wore when working as a Merc on the side. She gave the door a gentle tap, waiting for Milli or Adrienne to open it.
Millicent heard the knock, promptly making her way over. She was still a little put off on Alisa coming here with her emotions literally switched off, but Millicent could understand the other woman's reasoning. She didn't have to like it though.
"She opened the door. "Hello, Alisa. Dressed for work I see."
"Oui, I suppose I am." She gave a nod of her head, before putting her four eyed mask on. "So, what will de grounds rules be dis time? No powers is almost a given."

She considered this. "I am not certain I like that. What was your gut feeling?"

"The man gave off a distinct mob vibe. I've heard rumors of a new syndicate making waves. I think it has something to do with that."

She paced back and forth a little. "Though they do pay rather well, usually. And the more mundane ones typically do not put up a fuss about paying."

She shrugged. "Still, I would have liked to match skills with some super-person eventually."

She held up a hand in anticipation of Millicent's glare. "I am joking, of course."
