A Story Begins (Intro Post, Open to Mansion Folk)
When his mother told him that she was sending him somewhere to train to be a hero, Richard had thought that she was pulling his leg. Of course, he realized that she was dead serious when he was put on a plane and took a cab to a large mansion where some former associates of hers lived. Okay, she might have called them something else, but Richard was choosing to visualize them as old friends as opposed to something negative. Either way, they were going to be his friends, which was all that really mattered to him.
Once he got all of his stuff up to the door, Richard opened the door and poked his head through. "Hello! Anyone there," he called out as he started to drag his stuff through the door. Hopefully, someone would show up to tell him where he could place his things for the time being.

Glancing around the room for a moment, his eyes stopped on the portraits behind her. "So I take it this is when I get told what is expected of me, right?"
no subject
She settled back down in her chair. "Well, Mr. Brooks, why are you at this school in particular and what are your powers?"
no subject
"Well, I am at this particular school because this is the one that my mother said was the best fit for me, and I tend to trust her judgement." Another smile appeared on his face.
Of course, his mother was the answer to the second question as well. "As for my powers, I inherited my mother's ability to transform myself and other things into this mist that I can move in whatever direction that I want."
no subject
"Ah! Amelia Voght, correct? Do you have her teleportation capabilities?"
no subject
"So did you know my mother," asked Richard. Even though he hadn't said it allowed, he was referring to the time when his mother was a member of the group known as the Acolytes.
no subject
"I am familiar with your mother's history with Professor Xavier and as one of Magneto's Acolytes. We don't put the actions of the parents on the students here. You earn your own path."

Not wanting to stay on such a dreary topic, he figured that a question would take his mind off of things. "So exactly what types of classes will I be taking here? Are they all about learning to use our powers?"
no subject
Which coming from a time traveler almost made her dizzy.
"You will be studying a regular high school curriculum alongside more mutant specific subjects." She ticked off things on her fingers. "You will have math, English, history, physical education and so on as well as power control, mental resistance, and teamwork classes among other things."
no subject
"So it will be like a normal school where there will be classes that I like and classes that I don't like." With most of the regular curriculum falling into the latter category.
no subject
"Yes, it will have mundane classes so we can keep our accreditation as a school. Otherwise, we would have to shut down and find a new line of business to draw mutants here. I'm not keen on cults." Even though she had been the head of a cult in charge of taking down Apocalypse. Though she smiled slightly to show she was kidding in part.

"So anything else that I should know about this place? You know any dress codes, after school groups, codenaming ceremonies..." Okay, he knew the last one was meant to be a nudge toward his idea of becoming a superhero, but it could have been taken as a joke if one wanted.

Rachel leaned forward to put her elbows on top of her desk. "I'll get you a student handbook to look over, but we're pretty light on the goings on during the summer semester and this construction. With the oncoming uptick in enrollment there will be more extra-curricular activities available. Your advisor will be helping you pick out a codename if you desire one."
no subject
"Guess that means I'll have plenty of time to think of a good one," he said with a smile. He definitely didn't want to be the guy that chose a cliche codename.
"So what do we do now?"
no subject
"That is up to you. I can have Bobbi come back to give you a tour or we can get you settled into your temporary dorm until student lodging is finished construction. Or I can get one of the teachers in here to give you a more formal informal orientation."
no subject
"I should probably put away my things first before I start trying to memorize where everything is in this place."
no subject
"The boys' dorm is pretty sparse this time of year. Though there are the wandering turtles." She sent out a mental summons to whichever student was closest to her office.
"I'll have one of the other students take you there to let you unpack."
no subject
"Thank you," said Richard as he rose from his seat. Now all he had to do was meet this new person, get his things and settle into his new room.

"Richard, this is Rose Logan. She'll be one of your classmates."
no subject
'Hello Rose. It is a pleasure to meet you," said Richard as he extended his hand for her to shake.

Pushing that type of thought out of his mind, he decided that it would be best to get things going. "We should probably get my things before you show me to my room."
no subject
She nodded. "Yeah, let's grab 'em."
no subject
"So how long have you been here, Rose?"
